Anyone who has been a fan of gaming for a while now is more than familiar with Insomniac Games, long time supporters of the PlayStation formats and creators of famous franchises such as Spyro the Dragon and Ratchet and Clank. If certain rumours are to be believed though, this exclusive support may soon come to an end.
A “trusted source” who spoke to IGN anonymously during GDC claims that the company intends to go multi-platform.
Existing franchise are, as far as we know, locked into exclusivity on the PS3 for now, but this does not stop the company from creating a new franchise for the other existing consoles, the Xbox 360 and the Wii.
Insomniac is refusing to comment on this rumour for the time being, but we’ll let you know if something comes of it. I personally would be extremely surprised if this turned out to be true.
Sony’s motion controller, PlayStation Move was formally announced today, and with it details are beginning to slowly surface. PlayStation Move will indeed launch this fall and with it, the support of over thirty-six publishers.
The list can be found after the break.
There you have it, folks. At the Sony segment of the GDC, Sony has officially given “Arc” a name – The PlayStation Move.
Seems kind of like an obvious name for a motion controller, but I suppose it also succinctly explains its purpose.
The PlayStation Move will come bundled with a PlayStation Eye, a game and the controller itself for under $100.
In addition, PS3 games LittleBigPlanet and Resident Evil 5 have been confirmed to support Move functionality. A new title, Sports Champion, will feature several sports-related mini-games for use with the PlayStation Move.
Very much looking forward to Microsoft’s motion controller, too! Everyone stay tuned for Microsoft’s This Camera Tracks Your Movements!
Looking for the latest information from Sony’s GDC press conference? TGV will be live-blogging the entire conference. Don’t forget to particpate in the pre-conference polls, and comment on what you would like to see. The conference starts at 4:00 PST.
The live-blog can be found after the break.
Yesterday a “Surprise Sony sequel” was teased on GameTrailers TV, and for a while the internet was abuzz with speculation. So give thanks to Sony for mucking it all up. The surprise sequel, you ask? SOCOM 4. Feels a bit anti-climactic if you ask me.
The all new SOCOM is being developed by Zipper Interactive, the developer of MAG for the same console. The game’s story will take place in South Easy Asia in which “a revolutionary army has seized control of a country bordering one of the world’s most vital waterways; threatening to disrupt he global economy,” according to the European PS Blog.
“Your mission is to step into the well-worn boots of the Ops Com, a NATO Operations Commander of an elite, five-man squad. You must venture deep into inhospitable jungles, city streets and crumbling urban ruins to engage an army of rebel fighters and discover their plans.
Although you’re vastly outnumbered, you’re armed with the latest weaponry and your men are second to none – but do you possess the stealth, speed and tactical thinking to lead them to victory? Time is not on your side: you have just six days to complete your mission. To emerge victorious, you must lead from the front, maintain control of the situation and fight with sheer intensity.”
Online the game promises matches for up to 32 players and realism that “will be second to none”. No release date has been revealed yet. IGN has the full scoop.
So what’s worth picking up on the PlayStation Store this week, hmm? Well, there’s the demo for Just Cause 2, for one.
If that’s not enough to whet your appetite, there is also a plethora of DLC for numerous titles, and Vandal Hearts: Flames of Judgement for those looking for a bit of an strategy RPG fix.

Happy birthday, PS2! Ten years ago today, Sony launched the PlayStation 2 in Japan. The console launched on October 26 and November 24 respectively in the same year.
Since then the PS2 has become the best-selling console of al time, selling over 140 million units. The best selling PS2 game of all time ended up being Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
So let’s all join together and celebrate the PS2! Good times
This turbulent day have finally come to an end, and we can finally rest peacefully, knowing that our PS3s are safe once more. It appears that PS3 machines the world over are auto-correcting themselves as their internal clocks spins over to the 2nd of March. Happy days!
All data appears to be fixed, but trophies earned by users before syncing them with the PlayStation Network will be lost. Lets hope you do so on a regular basis, or you may have lost some significant time investment in your games.
The full ramifications of today’s error or any potential future problem it may cause are not yet known, but we will let you know if and when more information comes to light.
For now… this journalist is off to continue his second play-through of Heavy Rain!

Sony has issued a full status update on the crippling PS3 bug issue which has been plaguing consoles throughout the world. The issue is apparently being caused by a bug in the system’s clock functionality.
SCEE has released a full statement in which the company aims to have the issue resolved within the next 24 hours.
The Gaming Vault has been receiving reports by emails since this morning from some owners of PS3 Slim consoles claiming that their machines are being affected by the issues plaguing PlayStation 3 console and PSN today.
We have also received at least one report from an owner of an older “fat” model of the PS3 claiming that his console has not been affected by this issue.
It was assumed today (and claimed by Sony) that this problem was relegated to older models of Sony’s console. This appears to not entirely be the case, and your chances are hit and miss if you choose to use the PlayStation Network this.
Sony themselves have in fact recommending on their DevNet that “all consumer units” of the PS3 should stay offline today, regardless of the model.
Clearly this problem isn’t affecting all PS3 Slims, but only a select number of units, which is likely to be a small number. We’ll keep you updated.
[UPDATE] We have received some clarification from informed hardware buffs with information regarding why some Phats units are not affected, and why some Slim units are. Hit the cut for more information.

News is currently circulating that European game retailer GAME is already refusing to trade in recently affected PS3 which were affected by the PSN / PS3 hardware failures which occurred earlier today.
Owners who have been attempting to trade in their “fat” PS3s for the currently-unaffected slim models are apparently being refused, reliable reports have indicated to us. GAME is refusing trade for those consoles at this time.
We have received word directly from consumers regarding this as well.
We’ll keep you informed on any more updates regarding the PS3’s recent problems as we get them.
[UPDATE 2] According to a new tweet by Digital Foundry going back to older firmware won’t fix your problem. Sony says they are still working on it: ” Our teams are currently working on a fix for this issue. We have no details of an ETA yet. We expect to have further news shortly.”
[UPDATE] This error affects both online and offline PS3s. This was confirmed by Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter, though PS3 Slim models seem to be getting away with it according to a tweet from SCEA.
If you have a PS3, do not turn it on today today!
Sony’s console designers are apparently so idiotic that they were unable to factor in the maths behind a leap year in the machine’s internal clock. This is causing machines’s clocks to revert to 12/31/1999, stopping some offline games from even loading, and causing potentially permanent corruption to your Trophy collection.
We promise to let everyone know when the problem has been fixed and it’s safe to turn on your PS3 again. Sony is currently “looking into it”.
Way to go, Sony! This is almost as embarassing as the Red Ring of Death.
In an interview with Fast Company, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton says that there are no current plans for a PlayStation 4.
“We’ve just passed the third year of the PlayStation 3 and we’re just hitting our stride. And I don’t think anyone is saying, ‘This is a five-year cycle; what’s new on the horizon?’ I can’t even imagine what can be done technically beyond the PlayStation 3 in the near future.”
“A question I often get is when we are going to see PlayStation 4. When somebody can craft the technology that exceeds what we’re able to do on the PS3, but we are still just starting to harness it.”
Well, I have to admit, the PS3 is just barely getting into stride right now and being hit with several long-awaited exclusive titles. Honestly, why anyone would be thinking “PlayStation 4!” right now is beyond me. We don’t need to be able to identify on-screen characters’ individual pores. Not just yet.
Well, just like the title says, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has sold over 3.5 million units on the PlayStation 3 when just earlier in the month, SCEA’s Jack Tretton mentioned that the game had just hit the 3 million mark.
In addition to the post over at the US PS Blog where Scott Rhode, Vice President of SCEA, said that the game has won over 150 industry awards, Uncharted 2 won 10 D.I.C.E. awards just this week.
Not only that, Uncharted 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation 3 title and boasts 1.5 million active online users.
Uncharted 2 is also up for 10 BAFTA awards.
Well done, Uncharted 2! You are an inanimate object worthy of praise.
