PSP to be aimed at a younger audience

During E3 2010, Sony announced their new marketing campaign for the PSP, featuring an African American child named Marcus. He’s effectively the Kevin Butler of the PSP, only more annoying and not fun to watch. At all.
The new marketing campaign is set to target the PSP at a “younger” crowd, who has more time to play games.
PS3Jailbreak developer wants you to buy the “original solution”
Well, ain’t this a co-inky-dink. The developer for the latest scheme in stealing, the guy who made the PS3Jailbreak software, is urging potential buyers to get their thieving software straight from the source and not from “imitators or Chinese knockoffs.”
E3 2010: Sony’s press conference impressions and opinions

We here at The Gaming Vault thought we’d give a quick run-down of our first impressions and opinions on Sony’s press conference. Sony had a rather long press conference this year, and was all about the 3D aspect of gaming. Yet Sony forgot to mention that you need a 3D TV in order to experience games in 3D, which goes against Sony’s boasts about being “best on 3D”, not to mention pushing several 3D games out the door.
E3 2010: Yakuza 4 Hands-On

In the demo, each of the four playable characters (yes, four) got a chance to show their fisticuffs as they battled the scum of the streets in their own unique fighting styles. They may all be rough and heavy men, but each of your choices vary in their stats. You have the highly agile, the slow and powerful, the grappler, and, of course, my main man Kazuma, the all-arounder.
I can already tell that being able to play multiple characters will certainly add dozens of gameplay hours to the completionists everywhere. Using any of the assorted weapons on the ground with the game’s over-the-top special moves also left me smiling from ear to ear the entire time that controller was in my hands. It was a short demo, but that is all it took to really get me hooked!

Portal 2 coming to PS3

Portal 2 has officially been announced for the PlayStation 3. This announcement came courtesy of a very nervous looking Gabe Newell during Sony’s E3 press conference.
“PlayStation 3 is the most open platform of all the current generation consoles and has worked extremely hard to make the platform the most desirable for consumers and developers.
As such, we are delighted to announce Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 and believe the Steamworks support included will make it the best console version of the game,” Newell stated in a press release.
A quick launch trailer was also shown, which you can find below. It looks like the player and GLAdOS will be teaming up to fight whatever’s taken over the Aperture Science facility.

Sequel O’Clock: Infamous 2, Red Faction: Armageddon
It’s that magical time of year again, kids. E3 is but a week away, and that means announcements and rumours of hot new titles. Today we learned about two follow-ups to some of 2009s most acclaimed titles.
Game Informer have revealed their latest cover, and lo and behold, it’s Cole from Infamous, sporting a new look. Infamous 2 will build upon what the predecessor did right, sporting new powers, and a whole new city to traverse seamlessly.
Another successful open world game released last summer was the surprise hit Red Faction: Guerilla. A lot of the games’ appeal was attributed to it’s sandbox-ness, letting players have free roam to destroy whatever they wanted. In Red Faction: Armageddon, the colonists have been driven away from Mars’ surface and into caves, only to discover that there’s something else down there. Watch the trailer below.
Killzone 3 officially announced

I love it when rumours come true, don’t you? Sony has now officially announced Killzone 3, after several leaks over the weekend from US magazine Gamepro.
Killzone 3 begins where Killzone 2 ended: Sev and Rico are attempting to take on the Helghast army after Scolar Visari was murdered at the end of the last game. Most of the ISA forces having been wiped out after the nuclear detonation at the end of Killzone 2.
Developer Guerrilla promises levels that will be “ten times bigger” than in the predecessor. They are also promising “brutal combat in a host of environments that threaten to bury you on the deadly planet”. There has also been a promise of jetpack-wielding soldiers.
Cinema classics coming to the PS3

Film buffs who own PS3s can rejoice and be merry, as online movie site Mubi.com is making its way to the PS3, taking a great library of films with it. This was announced on the European PS Blog.
Mubi will allow your PS3 to stream films, obviously, but these aren’t your typical summer blockbusters. Mubi tends to go for “quality over quantity”, so expect to find names like the Coen Brothers, Jean-Luc Godard, Pedro Almodóvar, Quentin Tarantino and Gus Van Sant.
“This is not a simple virtual videostore; we emphasize quality over quantity. You’ll find undistributed festival gems ripe for your discovery, your favorite recent independent and art-house releases. Palm d’Or winners and simply films we think should have won awards. But that’s not all. We’ll bring you exclusive online premieres, collaborations with international film festivals, and retrospectives of some of the best cinema the world has ever seen.”
Members can follow and interact with other members. Like Martin Scorsese!
For now Mubi is only announced for European PS3 owners, but the Mubi.com site is available for everyone. Take that, Netflix! Mubi is a great way to discover some truly incredible cinema classics, not to mention sharing your experiences and views. Read the rest of this entry »

Rumour: PSP 2 in the works
If an article on MCV UK is to be believed, the PSP, which has been with us for over six years now, may finally have an official successor.
According the site, the ever-mysterious “reliable source” has informed the site that their company is”s waiting on a specific announcement from the platform holder before it can reveal of its future PSP plans”
Apparently “two key publishers” are also expending their marketing spend on the format towards the end of the year, which anyone will admit is a surprising move to take.
This is all very vague and entirely rumour at this point, but I must say that if it’s true, now would definitely be the right time for the PlayStation Portable to get a new leash of life and finally move onto a new generation of hardware.
I guess we’ll all know the truth at this year’s E3.
