High resolution Marvel vs. Capcom 3 screenshots

The Capcom Unity blog has given us some of the high resolution versions of the previously leaked Game Informer images, as well as some brand new ones.

The game’s producer, Ryota Niitsuma also commented on the pictures, explaining how they are going for a very comic-booky look, as well as bringing back some of the over-the-top attacks from the previous games with a more, *ahem*, “realistic” look. Have a look-see for yourself in the gallery below!

Capcom’s profit plummets, down 73%

Posted by Herman S. Lilleng On May - 7 - 2010

Apparently the economy isn’t doing so hot these days. Many game publishers are feeling this recently, and especially Capcom. The Japan based publisher posted their financial results for the last 12 months today, and it’s not looking too hot.

Their profits are down by 73%, while sales are down 23%. Notice that these are the profits, so they’re still earning money. They’re just earning a lot less money than last year. Still, in a capitalist system that’s based on growth every year, that’s not a very good thing, and it could mean a whole lot less money to throw around on development.

Capcom is staying optimistic, though. While blaming the drop on weak-selling titles like Bionic Commando and Dark Void, they also mention that the cause is in part the delay of Super Street Fighter IV, Monster Hunter Tri and Lost Planet 2 in the West. That’s why, they say, they will come back even stronger next year. I hope they do, it’s always sad to see a game company take a hit like this.

Takeuchi won’t return to Resident Evil

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On May - 6 - 2010
Jun Takeuchi, famous producer of Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet has stated he does not plan to return to Resident Evil anytime soon.

In an interview with Xbox World 360 magazine, Takeuchi said he felt “extreme pressure” working in the shadow of Shinji Mikami, creator of series revival Resident Evil 4. Mikami left Capcom in 2007 and has since then joined up with Platinum Games.

“Yes, it’s true we did feel extreme pressure – and Mikami-san’s shadow – after Resi 4,” Takeuchi said. “However, because we were creating the sequel to this huge franchise we wanted to make our fresh direction clear.”

He also added: “Personally, I don’t think I’m gonna deal with Resident Evil 6 at all – as far as the series is concerned I’m not planning to return until at least two more Olympics have passed!”

General reception to Resident Evil 5 was touch and go at launch, with many gamers feeling it was simply an upgrade of RE4. I say let Mikami come back to the series. Or just improve on the controls a wee bit.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles detailed

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On April - 29 - 2009

More Resident Evil news, people, this time in the form of a trailer and some more information from the upcoming rail-shooter Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles.

Darkside Chronicles is the sequel to 2007′s Umbrella Chronicles, which recapped the events of Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Darkside Chronicles recaps the journies of Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield as they make their way through a zombie infected Racoon City.

From the trailer it’s easy to tell that the game’s pacing is a lot different than before. In Umbrella players had to clear room after room of zombies before moving on. This time around players have a limited time in each room and precision and timing are key elements.

The first person camera has also been given an overhaul in order to help with immersion. It bobs up and down in time with a character’s steps and swings around in panic as the zombies attack.

According to IGN the game will be easier than its predecessor across the board, but also that it will be more difficult to master and perfect. And as you can see from the trailer, it’s still got that hilarious Resident Evil dialogue…

Resident Evil 5 Review (Multi)

Posted by Michael O' Connor On April - 15 - 2009

Resident Evil 5 is a strange creature. It has all the flash and graphics of a next-gen game, yet the gameplay itself feels as if it’s years old.

This isn’t that warm nostalgia feeling you get from playing an old game again after many years. It’s that feeling where you played that type of game years ago and realise that, while it was fun at the time, those conventions have evolved into better, more intuitive play and controls since.

That’s the feeling I get from RE5.

While this conflict of evolution is present within the game, Capcom tailored the experience towards that conflict. They understood that moving is clumsy, so the infected can only run till they are 30 feet from you. At which point they slow to a shuffle. This tailoring helps alleviate what would have been a killer to playing the game. While they help most of the issues, a few still go unchecked.

Capcom says more PSone games coming to PSN

Posted by Michael O'Connor On March - 18 - 2009

More Capcom titles coming to PSone. Guess which one?

When quizzed yesterday about the possibility of past Resident Evil titles coming to the PlayStation Store, Capcom’s Christian Svensson said that the company has plans to release more of its PSone back-catalogue in the near future.

“The first PS1 titles for PSN were submitted last week. When I have some dates for them, we’ll let you know. Word I got back this morning is that this may take a bit more time than anticipated. We’ll keep folks posted. And for now I’m still not discussing what title(s) they are. We’ll discuss it when we’re through the pipe a bit further.”

He might not be discussing which titles are coming to the service, but considering the company’s recent releases, it’s not hard to guess…

Capcom says BS to RE5 DLC complaints

Posted by Michael O' Connor On March - 16 - 2009

Last week Capcom announced the Versus mode DLC for RE5. This mode would contain the more common types of multiplayer at the price of $5 on PS3 and 400 MSpoints on 360. Many on the internet expressed their rage that it wasn’t included on the disc at release.

In responce Christian Svensson, vice president of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom replied to a topic on the official Capcom forums with this.

“This is the part where I get to say “BS”.  RE5 is well worth every penny of $60. A huge game, with tons of replay value, loads of unlockables, new weapons, co-op, mercenaries mode, etc. If any game warrants its price point, it’s RE5.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles – Debut Trailer

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On March - 14 - 2009

Yesterday we gave you the news that Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles for the Wii was getting sequeled. And here’s the debut trailer! It doesn’t reveal much apart from what we’ve seen in the screenshots, but it does provide some pretty awesome in-game graphics.

Capcom developer Masachika Kawata also promises that Darkside Chronicles will harken back to the darker, more horror-style of Resident Evil.

“‘Dark’ is really a key word for this game. It will be shown in horror, in the storyline, in the emotions that the characters go through.”

Wii-owning Resident Evil fans rejoice

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On March - 12 - 2009

Remember Capcom saying Wii-owning Resident Evil fans would be “very happy, very soon”? Time to put on your happy faces, Wii-owners, because The Umbrella Chronicles is getting sequeled!

The sequel will be titled “Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles”, and is based on the journeys of Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy through Racoon City in Resident Evil 2.

“We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games. Umbrella Chronicles was a huge success for us, Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles includes a more in-depth co-op experience, and we are excited to bring this exclusive content to the Wii audience,” said Mona Hamilton, Capcom’s VP of marketing.

But that’s not all! Capcom is also plans for a new Resident Evil “Classics” line; which will see the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero released exclusively on Wii.

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On February - 14 - 2009

Masachika Kawata, producer of Resident Evil 5, in an interview with Eurogamer TV has said he would like to make a new Resident Evil game for the Nintendo Wii.

“Personally I would like to create something on Wii in the Resident Evil family,” he said. “At the moment we don’t know and have just been working on RE5, so watch this space.”

This will certainly have the fanboys rolling in the aisles, but it’s good news for those who are looking for more mature titles on the Wii.
