Big Minecraft news arrived today from the Twitters Pages from Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson after he retweeted a post from Mojang business director Daniel Kaplan saying that the XBLA version of Minecraft has already sold 3.6 million copies. That 3.6 million number comes shortly after a July tweet from Notch saying the game surpassed 3 million sales.
Daniel Kaplan. Mojang’s business developer, revealed on Twitter today that Minecraft has sold a whopping 9.2 million copies since release.
It seems that Minecraft has a new lead developer in Jens “Jeb” Bergensten. Earlier today, Markus “Notch” Persson posted on his Tumblr that he would be stepping down as lead developer of Minecraft and handing over control to longtime friend and fellow Mojang employee, Jeb.

Some time ago, Markus “Notch” Persson, creator of Minecraft and head of Mojang, began filing for trademarks for games he and his team are working on. “Minecraft” was trademarked with ease, but Mojang’s upcoming game, Scrolls, had some difficulty becoming trademarked. Notch wrote up the full story on his official blog. Bethesda decided to intervene in this trademark application, suggesting [...]
Notch confirmed earlier today that Minecraft 1.7 has been released. The new update adds piston functionality which is sure to be all kinds of useful for anything we can think of! The promised Adventure mode update has been relocated to update 1.8, which hasn’t gotten a date yet.
Minecraft! It’s coming to the Xbox 360! I’m still trying to get over that fact, but it’s slowly sinking in. However, the good folks over at Mojang aren’t stuck with porting the game over to the XBox all on their own.
