[UPDATE]: It turns out the clip was, in fact, neither a game trailer, nor a film trailer. According to actress Jeri Ryan’s Twitter account, the clip was made by director Kevin Tancharoen to sell his vision to Warner Bros. Jeri said she did her role as a favor for a friend. Still doesn’t make the clip any less awesome. Dear WB: pick this sucker up! Or else…
The earliest reports came from Kotaku, but the Twitter stream has been steadily pumping out news and rumours about the mysterious video that appeared on YouTube. The clip appears to be a trailer for an upcoming movie adaptation of the Mortal Kombat series, offering a more realistic take on the franchise.
Starring Michael Jai White as Jax and Jeri Ryan as Sonya Blade, the clip looks like a Nolanised Mortal Kombat universe, which comes off as much darker and more violent than the campness of the original adaptation. According to Kotaku, Warner Bros. wants to reboot the movie franchise, and if this clip is a teaser trailer for the movie, sign me up.
More will most likely be revealed at E3, considering the clip’s reveal this week. Keep in mind that this clip might have been released just to make a stir about an upcoming Mortal Kombat game.
