Media Molecule are asking the question “Who you gonna call?” on their website. Those with half a brain and a memory of the 80’s and 90’s know the answer: The Ghostbusters.
So what will it be? Will we be seeing a Sackboy running around with a jumpsuit and Proton Pack, or maybe a Sackboy turned Slimer? Whatever it is, we can’t wait.
The Ghostbusters are back, and they are better than ever. While most movie based video games have a large amount of suckage, Ghostbusters isn’t bogged down by the release date of a massive summer blockbuster.
This is an official entry in the franchise, a movie in video game form if you will. The boys in grey have a lot of fans both young and old, and all those fans can rest easily, as Ghostbusters: The Video Game delivers on many accounts.
The game kicks off as a wave of ghostly energy emanates from a museum housing a Gozer exhibit. At the same time the Ghostbusters have hired a new member to the team, the Rookie, who’ll be working as an “experimental weapons technician” or Egon’s guinea pig. The team is reluctant to get to know the new recruit as half the equipment he’ll be testing can send him flying halfway to New-Jersey in case something malfunctions.
It’s a good day to be European, it seems. A few months ago we reported that the European release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game was going to be released as a timed Playstation exclusive. Being European and an Xbox 360 owner I was, obviously, pissed.
But like I said, today is a good day to be European, because Destructoid has confirmed with Atari that the North American version of Ghostbusters for the 360 will not be region locked. So if you’re not willing to wait for a yet to be confirmed release date of the 360 version, you can import it online and pop the disc into your PAL machine.
This is awesome I say! Awesome! Ghostbusters launches June 16.
It seems Atari has decided to forgo E3 this year, though they still plan to attend the convention.
An Atari representative told Joystiq that it was a “proactive decision to attend but not exhibit at this year’s E3 event”. This is so the company can focus on “other selling and marketing initiatives” for Ghostbusters, Champions Online and “other to be announced titles”.
Word on the street is that Atari is out of cash, which is what prompted the PlayStation exclusivity in Europe.

Here’s something that’ll thoroughly annoy most of us. It seems us Europeans will have to wait a while in order to play Ghostbusters: The Video Game on our 360s and Wiis.
Sony announced yesterday that Ghostbusters would be a PlayStation exclusive in Europe, releasing only on PS3, PS2 and PSP. Atari has clarified that this exclusivity is only exclusive to Europe, and that gamers in North America will be able to enjoy Ghostbusters on all platforms.
While Atari confirmed later that the 360 and Wii versions of Ghostbusters will be released in Europe “at some point”, they don’t know when. Until that point, it’s PS3 exclusivity all the way.
If you hoped Sigourney Weaver would be the heroine in the new Ghostbusters game, you’ll be sorely mistaken.
Weaver was actually offered the role, but declined. When she changed her mind, her character had already been written out of the script.
Who’s her replacement you say? None other than Charmed actress Alyssa Milano. Her character is virtually the same as Weaver’s, at least it seems like it in the video.
She’s still hot, though.
Ghostbusters: The video game is out on all platforms June 19.

It seems that a recent press release from Sony Pictures, detailing the 25th Anniversary of the Ghostbusters movie, has inadvertently revealed the release date for the upcoming Ghostbusters video game from Atari.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game is penned for a worldwide release in “the week of June 16, 2009″; specifically, it will be hitting us on June 19th!
From the press release:
America’s favorite paranormal psychologists are back to save the world, this time with unsurpassed picture and audio quality and advanced new bonus features in the Ghostbusters Blu-ray Disc, releasing worldwide the week of June 16, 2009. The simultaneous launch of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, the highly anticipated videogame from Atari, celebrates the film’s 25th anniversary, with an all-new adventure from by the film’s original writers.
Sony Pictures will also be releasing a Blu-ray edition of the movie to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic franchise. These can’t come soon enough!
They might not look the same as in the previous version, but they’re still Ghostbusters.
The graphics are more cartoony than their “next-gen” counterparts, but the game still looks like fun. The Wii version was built “from the ground up” according the developers Red Fly in the following 10-min video.
Be nice and thank NintendoEverything, children.
The wonderful people over at Shacknews have posted the new trailer from the Ghostbusters video game. It’s not particulary scary, but the game isn’t really meant to be.
You can watch the trailerhere.
Though I have to say the characters in the game look amazingly like their movie counterparts.

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Atari has officially confirmed that the Ghostbusters video game will finally be published next June.
The news comes straight from a publisher event in London today.
As we know, development on the game was put on hiatus during the merger of Blizzard and Activision, and was suspected to be dropped completely for a time.
No more mass hysteria! No more dogs and cats living together!

The feared lost Ghostbusters video game, which disappeared under water during the Activision / Blizzard merger, has just resurfaced, and its now in the capable hands of Atari
“Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari’s global line-up in 2009,” said Atari boss and general gaming legend Phil Harrison about the acquisition of the titlle.
“The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem. There’s no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack.”
You tell him Phil!
This can’t come out soon enough.
