BioWare has just announced the next piece of free DLC for Cerberus Network users, based around the awesome Hammerhead tank, which is due to hit Xbox Live and PCs in March.
The “Firewalker” DLC pack will contain five missions centred around the formidable tank (pictured above), which “hovers over the battlefield at up to 120 kilometers per hour and features a guided missile system ensuring accuracy even during aggressive maneuvering.”
So says BioWare. So it must be awesome.
Only players registered with the Cerberus Network – claimed by inputting a redeem code provided in first-hand copies of the game – will have access to the downloadable content.
Talking to IncGamers recently, GM of EALA Sean Decker had made it very clear that, unlike a certain other franchise that will remain nameless, Medal of Honor won’t be blindly promoting the American Way of War. Thankfully.
“It’s not going to be a big propaganda piece where we wave the flag, or anything like that,” Decker explained. “It’s literally about the people that’re on the ground.”
“There’s been a lot of really good movies – the Gotham Awards just came out and Hurt Locker was the top one. It has nothing to do with the war in Iraq and why it started, or anything else – it’s just about the men on the ground, what they go through on a day-to-day basis, and their emotions.”
The reboot of the Medal of Honor franchise is expected to be released around July – September 2010.
BioWare has today removed Dragon Age: Origins DLC Return to Ostagar from Xbox Live, due to a title update creating a bug whereby specialised classes have stopped working in isolated circumstances.
The reason for the DLC being removed until further notice was explained on the official BioWare forums forums:
This morning a title update on the Xbox 360 for Dragon Age: Origins was made available in preparation for the release of Return to Ostagar. This title update introduced a previously undetected issue that causes specialization classes to not work correctly in Dragon Age: Origins. We are removing Return to Ostagar from Xbox Live until the issue is resolved and are recommending that you do not download the title update. If you have already performed the update, we apologize for this and are working hard to ensure a fix is available as soon as possible.
We’ll be sure to let you know when everything’s fixed and its back on the Xbox Live store.
LucasArts has confirmed via a recent statement that they are currently aiming to have the BioWare developed / E.A. published Star Wars MMORPG The Old Republic on store shelves by “Spring” 2011.
“While we have not announced a specific date, we can confirm that we are targeting a spring 2011 release for Star Wars: The Old Republic,” said the statement. “We’ve got a lot of exciting updates and reveals planned throughout 2010, including the first-ever hands-on testing for the game”
Time to start getting excited, people
Earlier Electronic Arts announced that it’s new shooter, ‘Bad Company 2′, will now support any modding tools, a staple of the PC community.
They have also announced that they will not allow self-hosted servers to be played with their game. They will provide the dedicated servers for their game, and will not provide the dedicated server software to be packaged in with their game.
The battlefield blog states – “There are many factors for why we have decided this with the biggest factor being security & integrity of our game & Dedicated Servers.”
You may be able to rent a server from EA, but you will not be able to host your own, which means no custom maps, settings, or anything else besides what is deemed for the server run by EA.
It is said that the main reason EA is doing this is to disallow piracy, as most games that came with dedicated server software allowed for hacking and pirated copies to play games without any sort of verification.
Whether or not EA pulls this off correctly will yet to be seen, but if it does work right, you may see this is many more games in the future.
Electronic Arts certainly knows when it’s onto a good thing. The company has just announced Dragon Age: Origins – Awakening, a full expansion pack for Dragon Age: Origins, which will be available to buy from March 18th, 2010.
The expansion pack looks to be more than just a smattering of little extras, if the press release is anything to go by. Amongst other things, it will include five entirely new characters, an increased level cap, new abilities and spells, and an entirely new locations to explore.
Best of all, players will be provided with the ability to respec their character’s talents and abilities, something which many Dragon Age players have been begging for since the launch of the game. A dramatic and detailed story will feature in the expansion, continuing on directly from the end of the official game.
Dragon Age fans will definitely not want to pass this one up.
Full press release after the break.
BioWare revealed on the official Mass Effect forums today that the sequel would arrive on two discs, with the 360 version requiring a disc swap at some point in the story.
“Even though there is a disc swap, it occurs at a carefully planned place in the game (that does not interfere with gameplay) and is done once,” stated community coordinator of BioWare Chris Priestly, “You do not swap back and forth. One swap and then done.”
The PC, on the other hand, will be a two-disc install
If you consider this disc swapping to be a serious problem with the game, then I would personally suggest going out and getting more exercise.
Electronic Arts has just confirmed that the Medal of Honor franchise will see a reboot in 2010 as a modern-day shooter set in Afghanistan. It will be hitting PC, 360 and PS3.
Now, I’m going to give Electronic Arts credit where credit is due. Based on what we’ve have been told so far about the game, it’s decision to focus on the true-to-life military concept of the Tier 1 Operator is a credible and respectful approach to take, and automatically gives it a leg up on Call of Duty’s faux pas Delta Force crap.
EALA’s will be working on the single-player campaign, whilst legends DICE will be holding down the multi-player portion of the game.
The reveal trailer of the game, which is simply naked “Medal of Honor”, will be shown at this year’s VGAs on December 12th. We’ll keep you posted.
We did say Brütal Legend was going to get some DLC packages, but we hadn’t forseen it would happen this soon.
In november Electronic Arts and Double Fine is releasing the first piece of Brütal Legend DLC. Tears of the Hextadon will be available on Xbox Live November 3 for 400 MS Points, and on PSN on November 5 for free until November 19, then £3.99 after.
The DLC is a map pack which adds to more maps to Brütal Legends multiplayer mode. The first, Circle of Tears, is a “rough-hewn circular battlefield” in a forsaken land, carved out by “vile waters”. The second map, Death’s Fjord, is described by Double Fine as “an icy mountain pass with a dense cluster of fans that lie below”.
“I play Brütal Legend online every night,” said Tim Schafer, President of Double Fine, “And I need more maps! Circle of Tears is named after the crying of my vanquished foes on the battlefield, and Death’s Fjord is obviously a tribute to my Nordic ancestors, and their love of fan geysers and… Well, actually I just thought the name was cool. See you online!”
Warner Bros. Interactive has just sent out a press release with a full tracklist for Lego: Rock Band, and it’s… a lot better than you might expect.
It contains such strong arts as David Bowie, Kaiser Chiefs, Queen, and even the Jackson 5! Seriously, who wouldn’t want to sing along to “I Want You Back”?
The press release also revealed that Rock Band DLC will be fully compatible and playable with Lego Rock Band, and that you will also be able to export tracks from Lego Rock Band over to the main Rock Band titles. That’s rather generous.
Full PR blurb and track list after the break.
According to a LinkedIn posting looking from Visceral Games looking for staff, Dead Space 2 is currently in pre-production.
Quoth:
This M-rated action/shooter sequel will set new standards for an action-packed story-driven console experience.
The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place. We have complete autonomy and creative control over our own decisions. The Games Label at EA is 100% committed to this IP, and has already worked on IP extensions such as comic, animated features, and action figures.
[UPDATE] It’s finally available everywhere.
Just in case you didn’t already know, a demo for Schafer’s satanic masterpiece, Brutal Legend, hits the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow.
Will you be downloading it? You’d be mad not to!
Well, madder than Tim Schafer, anyway. And that’s pretty mad.
With The Beatles: Rock Band releasing tomorrow, Electronic Arts has provided a press release detailing all the tracks, the pricing, future DLC dates and everything else you could possibly want to know about the game.
Hit the link to read it all.
Dante’s Inferno, the action adventure God of War-a-like, has release dates. 9th September in the US and the 12th in the UK. Great stuff.
The game itself has been likened to God of War by the developers themselves, so we’re not certain how interested we are. It certainly looks creepy, though.
Battling your way through the circles of hell? How could that be bad?
The first trailer for Command & Conquer 4 has just been released, and it appears to take place in Manchester. Yes, that Manchester, England. As in Manchester, England., home of two football (or soccer, to you Americans) teams.
From what we can tell, the city has been overrun with Tiberium, and dialogue seems to indicate the entire world has suffered a similar fate. And the Brotherhood of Nod has a proposition for the GDI.
Looks like England is in for some fun.
