Well, just like the title says, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has sold over 3.5 million units on the PlayStation 3 when just earlier in the month, SCEA’s Jack Tretton mentioned that the game had just hit the 3 million mark.

In addition to the post over at the US PS Blog where Scott Rhode, Vice President of SCEA, said that the game has won over 150 industry awards, Uncharted 2 won 10 D.I.C.E. awards just this week.

Not only that, Uncharted 2 is the fastest-selling PlayStation 3 title and boasts 1.5 million active online users.

Uncharted 2 is also up for 10 BAFTA awards.

Well done, Uncharted 2! You are an inanimate object worthy of praise.

Activision boss Bobby Kotick said during his DICE keynote last night that he regrets not purchasing Harmonix.

“When we were buying Guitar Hero and buying RedOctane, the makers of Guitar Hero, we knew about Harmonix,” he said. “We had always known them as sort of a somewhat failed developer of music games.”

“They always had really good ideas, but nothing that was really commercially viable until Guitar Hero and at first we thought, ‘OK, it’s a good piece of software, but if we gave it to Neversoft, they’re going to knock the ball out of the park with this.”

And Neversoft did achieve great success with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, because it was the first game ever to rake in over $1 billion.

However, Kotick did say that had Activision purchased Harmonix itself, Guitar Hero’s landscape would have been completely different from what it is today.

Meanwhile, Harmonix is working steadily on Green Day: Rock Band and another title which may or may not be Rock Band 3.

Activision, relatedly, has already announced that a new Guitar Hero game will be out before the end of the year.

Thanks for the heads up, G4!

When speaking at DICE’s AIAS awards last night, a crowd member shouted “Twisted Metal!” to which Jaffe responded, “Soon, bitch – eight or nine months.”

That would put Eat, Sleep, Play’s supposed Twisted Metal release at about October or November.

Journalistic integrity and objectivity aside, I’ll admit that I liked Mirror’s Edge. It had some pretty good ideas behind it, but something of a flawed execution.

Developer DICE, however, are refusing to comment on whether or not development of a sequel is going on.

“I can’t really comment on that because we haven’t officially announced that we’re working on it” said DICE producer, Karl-Magnus Todesson in an interview with NowGamer.

“But we were very happy and proud of Mirror’s Edge one as a studio, so we are thinking about what we are going to do in the future.”

Todesson also added that while DICE is dedicated to the FPS genre, it’s important for them to find other projects to turn into IPs. According to him we’ll be seeing more of these other projects and IPs in the future.

Earlier Electronic Arts announced that it’s new shooter, ‘Bad Company 2′, will now support any modding tools, a staple of the PC community.

They have also announced that they will not allow self-hosted servers to be played with their game. They will provide the dedicated servers for their game, and will not provide the dedicated server software to be packaged in with their game.

The battlefield blog states – “There are many factors for why we have decided this with the biggest factor being security & integrity of our game & Dedicated Servers.”

You may be able to rent a server from EA, but you will not be able to host your own, which means no custom maps, settings, or anything else besides what is deemed for the server run by EA.

It is said that the main reason EA is doing this is to disallow piracy, as most games that came with dedicated server software allowed for hacking and pirated copies to play games without any sort of verification.

Whether or not EA pulls this off correctly will yet to be seen, but if it does work right, you may see this is many more games in the future.

New information about EA’s upcoming Medal of Honor reboot are being detailed in issue 56 Official Xbox 360 Magazine, on sale Thursday this week.

All the details are only available through the magazine, but OXM have been kind enough to reveal a few details on their official website.

Tier 1 Ops soldiers brought in to help with authenticity – camo, military speak, etc.

Takes place in Afghanistan

You can shoot out lights and use night-vision

There will be multiple playable characters

Features sprinting and knife melee attack, similar to Call of Duty

The revamp is being developed by EA Los Angeles and DICE, and is scheduled for a 2010 release. The revamp also goes the way of Call of Duty, as you could probably tell from the above details, and moves into the present day.

Also, we’re back! Happy new Year!

Electronic Arts has just confirmed that the Medal of Honor franchise will see a reboot in 2010 as a modern-day shooter set in Afghanistan. It will be hitting PC, 360 and PS3.

Now, I’m going to give Electronic Arts credit where credit is due. Based on what we’ve have been told so far about the game, it’s decision to focus on the true-to-life military concept of the Tier 1 Operator is a credible and respectful approach to take, and automatically gives it a leg up on Call of Duty’s faux pas Delta Force crap.

EALA’s will be working on the single-player campaign, whilst legends DICE will be holding down the multi-player portion of the game.

The reveal trailer of the game, which is simply naked “Medal of Honor”, will be shown at this year’s VGAs on December 12th. We’ll keep you posted.

EA’s Patrick Söderlund said during E3 that a small development team over at DICE in Sweden is currently working on the sequel to their parkour action platformer; Mirror’s Edge 2. Söderlund said he was “excited” over the plans for the sequel.

“Mirror’s Edge was a risky move. It was a bold move, a very innovative and inspiring move,” the VP told VideoGamer in an interview. “The game wasn’t perfect by any means. We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think.

“You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure. It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do.”

No other details was put forth at that time. Personally I loved Mirror’s Edge, despite constantly dying, so I’m definitely psyched about a sequel. More news when they pop up.

Swedish developer DICE have released a downloadable Time Trial Map for Mirror’s Edge on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

In these maps there will be no cityscape, no cops and no guns, just pure aesthetics and freerunning goodness.

The pack includes nine different courses on seven redesigned maps, and is available for 800 MS Points.

Full press release after the break

Leave the city behind! DICE announced today that the highly acclaimed first-person action adventure title, Mirror’s Edge™ has released downloadable content (DLC) for the PLAYSTATION®3, the Xbox 360® and the PC.

Players will be challenged to achieve the fastest times possible on nine races across seven all-new and totally redesigned Time Trial maps. No guns, no cops, and no city: this is true aesthetics, agility and flow that will challenge any runner. This special DLC pack is available for £7 or 800 Microsoft points. As an added bonus, all PLAYSTATION 3 Mirror’s Edge fans can now download an additional map for free.

Time Trial is a popular mode in Mirror’s Edge that challenges players to find the fastest route across various maps. Players can upload their best time to the Mirror’s Edge leaderboards for their friends to download and compete against. Players can see their friend’s ‘ghost’ run as they race their way through the course to the top of the leaderboards.

Mirror’s Edge delivers players straight into the shoes of Faith, a modern day heroine who traverses the vertigo-inducing cityscape, engaging in intense combat, fast-paced chases and challenging puzzles. With a never-before-seen sense of movement and perspective, players are drawn into Faith’s dangerous world.

Players can also experience Faith in 2D this Friday when the hand-crafted animation and old school platform game by Brad Borne, creator of Fancy Pants, goes live at www.mirrorsedge2d.com

DICE, the developer of Mirrors Edge, has just released the specs of the PC version of the game.

See the full details under the cut.

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP SP2/Vista
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz or 100% compatible equivalent
Memory: 1GB RAM
Video Card: 256MB memory with Shader Model 3.0*
HDD Space: 8GB
DVD Drive: 1x DVD Drive
Soundcard: Soundcard with DirectX 9.0c compatibility
DirectX: DirectX 9.0c
Network: An online connection is required for access to Leaderboards

“That’s the min-spec machine and that will have physX turned off,” commented one of the game’s designers on the the official Forums. “As far as PhysX is concerned – the game will run fine without it.”

The designer, who is known as Feffe, also denied a few rumours, saying that the PC version of the game wasn’t delayed “for reasons of piracy” or “because we think ‘PC is dead’ or any such reason”.

“In fact – we didn’t delay it. It takes a lot of time and effort to fix streaming, graphics, physics and all other things that are pretty much locked down on a console to work on a wide variety of PC hardware. Add to that making sure the menus feel nice and work properly on a PC rather then just coming off as a port.”

Electronic Arts and DICE confirmed today that Mirror’s Edge’s first batch of downloadable content will be hitting the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store this coming January.

The downloadable content will bring with it nine additional Time Trial races, set in an abstract world setting. The nine abstractly designed levels will be spread across seven new maps that with no guards or guns, and will be focused entirely on the the running.

The PS3 version of Mirror’s Edge will come with one additional race over the 360 version. Nothing to cry home about I’m afraid, PS3 fanboys. It’s no Lost and Damned, I’m afraid.

I’m trying my hardest to compose myself as I write this… the Mirror’s Edge demo has just gone up on the PlayStation store, and will be up on the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow.

The demo level basically takes you through a tutorial of the game’s mechanics, and teaches you how to make the best of your free-running abilities. One thing is for certain… it’s definately a game of skill, but the sense of achievement when you start learning to run without slowing down, keeping your pace, and jumping the rooftops at breathtaking speed and without pause, is the most exhilarating sensation you could ever experience in a video game.

Can you tell I’m excited?

If you haven’t downloaded the demo yet… get up off your butt and do so! Then come back here as fast as your legs can carry you, and let us know what you think!

Welcome to the first in what will hopefully become a regular feature here on TGV – The Achievements Vault. In each instalment, we will take a look at the Xbox 360 achievements for an upcoming title.

Mirror’s Edge, the unique wall-running game from DICE and Electronic Arts, with an art design to die for, gets the honour of being the first game featured.

Feel free to share your thoughts on the game’s achievements. Do you think they’re varied enough? Maybe you think they’re lazy and could be improved upon? Whatever your thoughts, let us know!
