Splinter Cell: Conviction demo out now

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On March - 18 - 2010

Big games equal to big marketing it seems, as the Splinter Cell: Conviction demo has just hit Xbox Live Marketplace. And it’s about bloody time!

The demo clocks in at about a gigabyte, so go get it right now if you’re one of the many excited about the game. No news on what level of the game the demo will show, but we can assume sneaking, killing and Jack Bauer style interrogation techniques are involved.

PC gamers won’t get a demo, for some reason. The full game is out on Xbox 360 and PC on April 13 in the US, April 14 in mainland Europe and April 16 in the UK.

Just Cause 2 demo is now available on Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

WHAT’RE YOU WAITING FOR?

There’s 35 square miles to explore! Get crackin’!

Demo weighs in at about 1GB of download, so you might be waiting a while. Also, no sign of a PC demo on Steam yet, but likely it’ll be up pretty soon.

Full game’s out for all three platforms on March 26th!

Just Cause 2 demo out next week, very huge

Posted by Kyle Gaddo On February - 26 - 2010

Square-Enix confirmed that the Just Cause 2 demo will be out for Live, Steam and PSN next week, March 4th for all platforms.

This information comes via Twitter from SE UK community bod Mike Oldman.

The Just Cause 2 demo will hit Xbox Live, PSN and Steam on March 4th.

In addition, Mike Oldman told fansite Panau Island that the demo itself will include roughly 35 square miles of play area of sandy desert with towns, settlements, military bases and more.

“There’s also one whole multi-stage faction mission for you to try, a race challenge and ample opportunities to cause chaos at pretty much every turn. There’s a good mix of vehicles, everything from tuk tuks to planes, helicopters to jeeps, military and civilian,” he told Panau Island.

“We really want you to play it again and again, to try out as much as you can. If you don’t fancy tackling the mission for example, don’t. See if we care. You’ll easily find something else to keep you occupied.”

Just Cause 2 comes out for PC, 360 and the PS3 on March 26th.

Bought Darksiders? Get a free copy of Red Faction: Guerrilla!

Posted by Kyle Gaddo On February - 19 - 2010

Those who bought Darksiders and did not receive a voucher for a free copy of Red Faction: Guerrilla aren’t out of luck, because Vigil are awesome and have your back.

Provided you meet some conditions, you can still receive your free game.

Get your original receipt, cut off the game’s barcode, and fill out this mail-in form and mail all three off along with a check for $4.99 to cover the cost of shipping by March 7th and you’ll get your free game in no time.

Wouldn’t hurt to keep a copy of all these things on-file as well as get a return slip from your mailing place…you know, just to be safe.

Those still not sure about buying Darksiders will be able to play a 90-minute demo that comes out next week for both the 360 and PS3.

God of War III demo going public, February 25th

Posted by Kyle Gaddo On February - 19 - 2010

Update: SCEE just confirmed with VG247 that the God of War III demo will be available to the public, but no actual date has been announced.

A rep had this to say about the demo:

“The GOW3 demo being given away with Game is only active until the 24th.  Pre-orders after this date will not receive it. There will be a demo on the PSN but the date is still TBC.”

Previous: Should this information be correct, the God of War III demo should be available to the public next week on February 25th via the PlayStation Network.

It appears to be the same demo that was given out with pre-orders, the one that was released to a restricted number of PSN users, and the same demo that was playable at last year’s E3, gamescom and TGS.

God of War III is available in the US on March 16th and a tentative release date in the UK of March 19th, but the latter is still unconfirmed.

Heavy Rain demo impressions

Posted by Michael O'Connor On February - 6 - 2010

Heavy Rain demo impressions

With access to the Heavy Rain demo coming to us earlier than expected, this gamer took it upon himself to download it as soon as he had the chance. My personal conclusion? It works, and it works far better than many cynical gamers thus far have been willing to believe it could.

The demo gives you three different segments to play through; a tutorial to guide you through the basic controls, an action heavy scene set in an run-down apartment block, and the crime scene of a murder committed by the Origami Killer, the character at the centre of Heavy Rain’s dramatic story-line.

The first part of the demo, the tutorial, begins with retired detective Scott Shelby making his way down a rain soaked alley, on his way to question someone in regards to their sons death at the hands of the Original Killer. Why he couldn’t just park his car in front of the apartment itself is never mentioned, but that’s a question for another time. For now, lets focus on the gameplay.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Xbox Live demo released today

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On January - 28 - 2010

A demo for Battlefield: Bad Company 2′s online multiplayer mode was released worldwide today on Xbox Live Marketplace. This was announced in a press release by DICE and EA. A PC beta is also available, but only if you pre-order the game at “participating retailers”.

“After the success of the PS3 beta, we’re excited to provide gamers — especially our long-supporting, rabidly passionate PC fans — with another opportunity to get into the game before release,” says Patrick Bach, Senior Producer on Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

“Our fans have been a huge part of the franchise’s success and we can’t wait for everyone to experience the amazing gameplay and unforgettable Battlefield moments in Battlefield: Bad Company 2.”

The console demo and PC beta will feature a vehicle focused map called “Port Valdez”, where up to 24 player compete against each other as either US or Russian soldiers. The players will have access to five land and three air vehicles, but infantry combat is also a big part of the overall experience.

The console demo will be released on PSN on February 4th, and the game itself launches on Marc 2 in North America and Marc 4 in Europe.

Dark Void demo out this week

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On January - 5 - 2010

Dark Void demo out this week

Capcom’s just confirmed the demo of upcoming Dark Void will be released tomorrow (January 6) on Xbox Live, with the PSN version to be released on Thursday.

Dark Void’s story centers around a pilot named William who’s teleported into a parallel universe where humans are battling aliens called Watchers. With the help of Nikola Tesla, William acquires a jetpack for some high-flying adventures.

According to the press release, the demo will allow gamers to explore the “miraculous world of Dark Void” through aerial dog-fights and on-foot combat while experiencing the new vertical cover system. Dark Void certainly seems promising, and I can’t wait to strap on that jetpack and take to the skies.

Dante’s Inferno gets PS3 demo today, 360 has to wait

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On December - 10 - 2009

EA recently announced that the PS3 version of upcoming Dante’s Inferno will be getting an exclusive special edition.

Those who buy the “Divine Edition” will receive developer commentaries, a Wayne Barlowe digital art book, the game’s soundtrack and a digital version of the complete Longfellow translation of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno. All for the standard retail price of the game.

Not only that, but the PS3 version of the game’s demo hit US PSN today, while all 360 owners have to wait until Christmas Eve. The European version of the demo will hit both platforms on the 24th.

“We are thrilled to offer an exclusive game pack for PlayStation 3 gamers,” said Jonathan Knight, Executive Producer for Dante’s Inferno. “The PlayStation platform has a long history of delivering AAA action/adventure games. Adding Dante’s Inferno to that rich catalogue is very exciting for the team. And with the demo now available on the PlayStation Network, players can finally get a taste of what awaits them in the full game on Feb 9th.”

Bayonetta demo coming on October 8

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On October - 1 - 2009

In some more demo news this week, Bayonetta; a Devil May Cry clone starring a witch who’s basically a hot librarian wearing her own magic hair as a jump suit, will be devlivering a demo on October 8.

The date of the demo has so far only been announced on a Japanese blog, but we’re hoping it’ll come to the US and Europe around the same time.

The Xbo360 and PS3 demos will be a bit different, however. Both will include a tutorial and the Angel’s Metropolis level, but the 360 demo will get a second stage, Falling Clock Tower. So the PS3 owners have been kinda shafted.

Brutal Legend demo available for all

Brutal Legend Demo available for all

[UPDATE] It looks like this is finally available to download in Europe. It’s about damn time…

Our good friend Major Nelson has just confirmed that the demo for Brutal Legend has hit the Xbox Live Marketplace, available to everyone, even those without a preorder code.

From the marketing blurb:

Brütal Legend is an action game from the mind of Tim Schafer. Eddie Riggs, a roadie chosen by the Rock Gods and played by Jack Black, must battle through a heavy metal fantasy world to save humanity and slay demons — using only a broad axe, his guitar Clementine, and an army of metal heads.

So go get it. It’s out on October 15 for PS3 and 360

Arkham Asylum demo out Friday

Posted by Jens Erik Vaaler On August - 3 - 2009

Earlier today some rumours began floating around the Eidos forums that news on a demo of Batman: Arkham Asylum would be “coming next week”.

And now it’s been officially confirmed by Eidos that the demo will be released this Friday, August 7, for all formats. Unfortunately there’s no word on which part of the game will be playable. Our hopes are on the first opening act, complete with Invisible Predator gameplay.

Either way, a demo on the game many describe as the greatest superhero game of all time is undoubtedly made of awesome.

Full game’s out on August 28.

The US release date has moved forward by about a month, to May 26th, and there’ll be a demo on the 21st. A double whammy of welcome surprises! There’s no news yet on the UK release date, but we’ll keep you posted.

Also, through the above link to the Official Playstation US Blog, you’ll see three different preorder packages;

  • An in-game melee power called the Gigawatt Blades that’s stronger than any other melee weapon in the game.
  • An exclusive Home costume of a REAPER gang member.
  • Early access to the demo on the 7th May.

I know which I’d pick…if I was American. Read the rest of this entry »

Red Faction: Guerrilla demo details

Posted by Gareth Chadwick On April - 3 - 2009

Interested in a chance to get in on the demo of the latest iteration of Red Faction? Well, you’ve got two choices (well, not really, it depends where you live). If you live in the US, you must order the game from Gamestop, because that’s so original and not at all frustrating.

However, if you’re in the UK, you can go and sign up at THQ-games.com and enter their soon-to-be-open giveaway of codes that will allow you to download the demo via PSN or XBL (we assume you’ll have a choice when applying for one).

What are you waiting for? Go sign up and commence waiting! Read the rest of this entry »
