Finally! Crackdown 2 has just received an official release date in the UK. The title will be hitting shelves in the country on July 9.
Ruffian’s also released the first ViDoc for the game.
A summer release was originally mentioned a few months ago by Ruffian Games, but this is the first confirmation of an exact release date.
Full press release after the cut.
Crackdown 2 has been confirmed for 2010, but no further details about when exactly we’ll see the game released. Pre-ordering the game will net you exclusive armors in different colors (Gold, Brushed, Red Metal and Blue Metal).
One thing’s for sure, though–it will contain nothing Halo-related.
Followers of Crackdown 2 have reason to be very happy, since Ruffian’s confirmed that the game is going to get a pre-release demo. This was revealed in an interview with IGN.
James Cope, the game’s producer, couldn’t say when the demo would hit online services: “Ruffian is one year old almost to the day. You can definitely expect a demo to hit Live before the game is out but I can’t say when that will be… yet. The Crackdown demo was fantastic and we want to carry on in that form.”
“The original Crackdown was pretty fun to play, but garnered a lot of critisism for a repetitive mission structure. Cope revealed the missions in the sequel would “require a bit more tactical thinking.”
Sounds great to me!
According to Microsoft’s Aaron Greenberg, the sequel will launch sometime in the first half of this year.
VG247 recently got up close and personal with developers Ruffian Games and Crackdown 2, and lots of information about the game was revealed from the interview.
- Four-way co-op for entire campaign
- Nine new, extremely large underground areas with “underworld population”
- Unique co-op vehicles
- New types of orbs to collect
- New hand-to-hand fighting system
- Big multiplayer with many different modes
Still no release date, unfortunately, but we’ll be sure to let you know as soon as one is announced.
Alongside a flurry of new details for the upcoming Crackdown sequel, Microsoft also released new screenshots of the game, and it’s certainly looking pretty.

Ruffian has provided a few more details about Crackdown 2 in an interview with Edge, letting us know that the game is set in a future Pacific City, with gameplay that has been “altered significantly.”
“From an environmental point of view, you probably would look at it as being an entirely new map,” creative director Billy Thompson explain
“It’s still Pacific City but further on in the timeline. We’ve altered a great deal, and think people who enjoyed the first game are going to be really pleased when they enter this one.
““And we’ve made sure the gameplay’s altered significantly.”
Microsoft has just released the first real details about Crackdown 2 over on the Xbox.com website, and it’s looking to be a pretty sweet title. Not only will we get to see 4-player co-op, but also competitive multiplayer for up to 16 people.
Obviously there’ll be a single-player campaign as well, but no details on that have been released.
A blurb released earlier today made some big promises about Crackdown 2’s multiplayer features:
The sequel to the award-winning vertical-world adventure, Crackdown 2 is the ultimate open-ended world action experience, only available on Xbox 360. The game lets you be judge, jury, and executioner for a huge, fully explorable city. Crackdown 2 takes multiplayer gaming to unprecedented levels for the ultimate co-op and competitive multiplayer experience, providing you and your friends with the complete freedom to explore, destroy, and play your way as you restore justice and peace to Pacific City—by any means necessary.
Crackdown 2 is scheduled for release next year.
It’s official! Crackdown 2 has just been confirmed at E3, will be exclusive to Xbox360.
There’s not really much more to say than that. Enjoy the sexy debut trailer!

Microsoft, today have given hope to the many by offering some less than subtle hints that a sequel to Realtime World’s extremely beloved 360 shooter, Crackdown, may just come to pass.
“I’m here to tell you on behalf of the community, I want – we need – another Crackdown,” Xbox Live’s director of programming Larry Hryb, told MGS boss Phil Spencer in the most recent Major Nelson podcast.
“That’s all I’m going to say, so you don’t have to confirm for deny anything. I’m just saying we want it. Yes, Crackdown’s one of my favourites,” said Spencer. “I’ll leave it at that.”
