Square Enix hiring for next generation gaming engine

Well, this is interesting. According to Andriasang, Square Enix’s recruit page has a listing looking for staff for work on a “next generation” gaming engine.

“At Square Enix, in anticipation of the appearance of next generation platforms, we’ve started development on a new generation game engine for competing beyond the level of the strong developers throughout the world, and are presently seeking a lot of talent.”

Square used the image of Cloud from Final Fantasy VII in the listing, but we probably shouldn’t read into that too much – it’s most likely just a picture for the sake of promoting the company’s image. The FFVII remake rumours stopped running their course a long time ago.

TGS 2008: Bartz, Terra and Cloud confirmed for Dissidia

Posted by Michael O'Connor On October - 9 - 2008

This just in from the Tokyo Game Show; Bartz, Terra and Cloud (from FFV, FFVI, and FFVII respectively) have just been confirmed as playable characters for the upcoming Dissidia: Final Fantasy on the PSP.

Bartz appearance, as with the rest of the roster, is highy reminisce of Yoshitaka Amano’s original character design, and has a look inspired by ancient Roman history. Terra’s design is also identical to Amano’s original art, and as such she will be ditching the green hair for a more traditional blonde. Cloud will appear in his classic get-up, instead of his more recent Advent Children garb.

This news pretty much completes the 20 character roster for Dissidia. Now all we have to do is wait for the game to be released…
