According to a report over on MCV, sales of Wii consoles have jumped a whopping 60 per cent last week, most likely due to the black version of the console helping to stimulate new interest in time for Christmas.

Nintendo says the Black Wii helped the console become the best performing home system of the week, resulting in increased demands for the Wii.

“Of course it would be wrong to attribute all of this to Black Wii as we’re all starting to see a natural peak season uplift on all hardware,” said senior Nintendo product manager Rob Lowe. No not that Rob Lowe. “But we have been really pleased with Wii’s performance over the last couple of weeks and the new Black Wii has certainly contributed to that. In fact Black hardware sales have doubled week-on-week.”

Will this lead to another bout of Wii shortages around the world? Nintendo is trying their best to avoid any stock trouble, but only time will tell.

Chart-Track has just released this week’s UK console sales charts, and it looks like FIFA 09 has beaten Call of Duty: World at War to take the top spot, marking it as this year’s number one Christmas title.

Though this gamer doesn’t even particularly like football, and would have panned the FIFA series hitting the top of the sales charts a few years ago, it’s a series that has undeniably improved over the last few years.

It’s a well deserved victory for a quality title!

Sales data for the week ending December 20th below.

1. FIFA 09 (EA)
2. Call of Duty: World at War (Activision Blizzard)
3. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)
4. Need For Speed Undercover (EA)
5. Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training (Nintendo)
6. Wii Play (Nintendo)
7. Quantum of Solace (Activision Blizzard)
8. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Nintendo)
9. Tomb Raider Underworld (Eidos)
10. Wii Fit (Nintendo)

Though nothing has been confirmed by Microsoft directly just yet, a number of new Xbox 360 bundles have been showing up on the retail websites across the internet, giving us a hint of Microsoft’s Christmas strategy this year.

Clearly Microsoft is to break the deadlock of the format in certain regions and catch up with the runaway success of the Nintendo Wii. – good luck with that – and these bundles are set to release in Europe (and presumably the UK) to help with that.

Consumers who purchase the arcade system will receive copies of Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Volume 1 and Sega Superstars Tennis. Meanwhile, purchasers of Premium or Elite will receive Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda: The Game.

The bundles look to be available from October 17th.

Not exactly a bundle for the hardcore, but it’ll definately attract the soccer moms.
