As you know, Sony somewhat screwed Europeans without PS3s over when they secured a timed exclusive release for Ghostbusters. Atari said the other platform releases would be released, but didn’t mention when.
Today, however, Namco Bandai Partners, who took over Atari’s publishing rights in Europe earlier this year, has confirmed that Ghostbusters will be released on all other platforms on 23 October this year.
If you want to know more about Ghostbusters, you can check out our full review here.
The Dragon Ball franchise have always been synonymous with money in the bank for Atari, but it seems those days are over.
Namco Bandai has recently announced that it has secured exclusive North American rights to publish all future Dragon Ball titles across all major consoles and handhelds. This exclusivity last for the next five years.
The deal begins officially in January 2010, but Namco Bandai are getting a head start later this year. Dragon Ball: Rising Blast for Xbox 360 and PS3, Dragon Ball: Revenge of King Piccolo for the Wii and Dragon Ball Z: Attack of the Saiyans for the DS are all being published by Namco Bandai in 2009.
Atari has been facing some tough times lately, with the withdraw from E3 and selling off its European publishing arm. Hopefully this isn’t going to be the end of Atari.
It seems Atari has decided to forgo E3 this year, though they still plan to attend the convention.
An Atari representative told Joystiq that it was a “proactive decision to attend but not exhibit at this year’s E3 event”. This is so the company can focus on “other selling and marketing initiatives” for Ghostbusters, Champions Online and “other to be announced titles”.
Word on the street is that Atari is out of cash, which is what prompted the PlayStation exclusivity in Europe.

Here’s something that’ll thoroughly annoy most of us. It seems us Europeans will have to wait a while in order to play Ghostbusters: The Video Game on our 360s and Wiis.
Sony announced yesterday that Ghostbusters would be a PlayStation exclusive in Europe, releasing only on PS3, PS2 and PSP. Atari has clarified that this exclusivity is only exclusive to Europe, and that gamers in North America will be able to enjoy Ghostbusters on all platforms.
While Atari confirmed later that the 360 and Wii versions of Ghostbusters will be released in Europe “at some point”, they don’t know when. Until that point, it’s PS3 exclusivity all the way.
Move over hardcore gamers, because the Wii has been given official approval by the godfather of video games; Nolan Bushnell.
Bushnell, known for developing the arcade hit Pong (based on Ralph Baer’s “Ping Pong” for the Magnavox Odyssey) and founding Atari in 1972, said in an interview with Kikizo that he is a big fan of the Nintendo Wii.
“I’m a big believer in the Wii. I love the physicality of the Wii controller, and how you can get the feeling of throwing a bowling ball or swinging a golf club. Those are the kinds of games I really like,” he said.
“I would be playing first-person shooters with my kid, except that those are games in which you have to have such fast circuits. My kids just whack me, so it’s no fun – I hate to lose. I like games where you can use stealth and guile.
“As you get older, it’s like the difference between playing squash and racketball. Squash is an older man’s game, because if you’re stealthy and wily, you can beat a better-co-ordinated and stronger, younger person.”
If you hoped Sigourney Weaver would be the heroine in the new Ghostbusters game, you’ll be sorely mistaken.
Weaver was actually offered the role, but declined. When she changed her mind, her character had already been written out of the script.
Who’s her replacement you say? None other than Charmed actress Alyssa Milano. Her character is virtually the same as Weaver’s, at least it seems like it in the video.
She’s still hot, though.
Ghostbusters: The video game is out on all platforms June 19.
The demo to Starbreeze’s Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher bay’s semi-sequle/remake has been released on Xbox Live, with the PSN version not yet dated. Atari says “very soon”.
It’s a download 639Mb large, but with a game with graphics like these, it’s to be expected. The game relies heavily on atmosphere and violence, and anti-hero Riddick will be using shadows to avoid being killed over and over.
Game’s out April 24th for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360
Atari has given us a brand new trailer from Tekken 6 today.
There’s something in there about vengeance having evolved, redemption… all that jazz, but mostly it’s about characters we know and love (or hate) kicking the crap out of each other.
Enjoy!

It seems that a recent press release from Sony Pictures, detailing the 25th Anniversary of the Ghostbusters movie, has inadvertently revealed the release date for the upcoming Ghostbusters video game from Atari.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game is penned for a worldwide release in “the week of June 16, 2009″; specifically, it will be hitting us on June 19th!
From the press release:
America’s favorite paranormal psychologists are back to save the world, this time with unsurpassed picture and audio quality and advanced new bonus features in the Ghostbusters Blu-ray Disc, releasing worldwide the week of June 16, 2009. The simultaneous launch of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, the highly anticipated videogame from Atari, celebrates the film’s 25th anniversary, with an all-new adventure from by the film’s original writers.
Sony Pictures will also be releasing a Blu-ray edition of the movie to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic franchise. These can’t come soon enough!
They might not look the same as in the previous version, but they’re still Ghostbusters.
The graphics are more cartoony than their “next-gen” counterparts, but the game still looks like fun. The Wii version was built “from the ground up” according the developers Red Fly in the following 10-min video.
Be nice and thank NintendoEverything, children.

Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi has arrived at the Atari event in London just moments ago to announce that he is hard at work on a new music-based game for Wii.
Atari showed nothing of the game except for a logo of the game “QJ”, but fans of Mizugichi’s work will be expecting a unique rhythmic game with amazing tunes and some unique and amazing visuals, if his previous work is anything to go by.
I for one, cannot wait to see this.
It’s no secret that Atari went and rescued Starbreeze Studios hi-def remake of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape form Butcher Bay after Activision-Blizzard cancelled the project. What you didn’t know was that the added new Dark Athena level are quite large, they have expended into an entirely new 10-hour campaign, complete with new game mechanics that work.
After little information rising up for some time, Atari hasn’t given up on the development. Since the acquisition of the game, this has afforded Atari an additional nine months of development time which explains the second game which also added more time to polish every last detail.
The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena looks amazing and will incorporate new gameplay and tech and is set to release in spring 2009.
The wonderful people over at Shacknews have posted the new trailer from the Ghostbusters video game. It’s not particulary scary, but the game isn’t really meant to be.
You can watch the trailerhere.
Though I have to say the characters in the game look amazingly like their movie counterparts.

Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Atari has officially confirmed that the Ghostbusters video game will finally be published next June.
The news comes straight from a publisher event in London today.
As we know, development on the game was put on hiatus during the merger of Blizzard and Activision, and was suspected to be dropped completely for a time.
No more mass hysteria! No more dogs and cats living together!

The feared lost Ghostbusters video game, which disappeared under water during the Activision / Blizzard merger, has just resurfaced, and its now in the capable hands of Atari
“Ghostbusters: The Video Game is a fantastic addition to Atari’s global line-up in 2009,” said Atari boss and general gaming legend Phil Harrison about the acquisition of the titlle.
“The title has built considerable anticipation and excitement among game fans for its high quality action and all-out mayhem. There’s no more thrilling Ghostbusting experience to be had, short of building your own proton pack.”
You tell him Phil!
This can’t come out soon enough.
