Extraordinary talented JRPG developers Level-5 were asked at a pre-TGS group interview about whether or not they would want to work Japanese animation superhouse Studio Ghibli; bearing in mind of course that the two collaborated on the immesurably gorgeous Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

The answer, given through an interpreter by Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino was this:

“If there is a potential opportunity to work with them again.  Yes, we’d like to work on some joint projects with them in the future – if there is, of course, a possibility.”

His most interesting response came when he was asked what existing Studio Ghibli film he would like to adapt into a videogame.  His answer?

Laputa: Castle In The Sky.

Yeah, i’ll just leave that there for now and let it sink in.

This is like a magical dream of mine come to fruition. I’m a lover of classic arcade gaming and since the demise of Midway, I’ve longed for somebody to put out a new Midway collection and Warner Bros. Interactive is stepping up to the plate with Midway Arcade Origins launching this November for the Xbox 360 and PS3! Specific date to be determined, I guess…

Anyways, the game is being developed by Backbone Entertainment and you can expect your usual Midway favorites like Rampage, Gauntlet, Joust, Spy Hunter, Marble Madness, and Defender along with a bunch more for a package of over 30 classic Midway arcade hits along with new features like leaderboards and achievements/trophies! Sadly, there is no online multiplayer and no full game list YET, but I’m sure more details will be revealed soon. The best part of the package is easily the budget pricing of only $30!

I know more details are needed before we can tell for sure if this is going to be a winner or not, but I have high hopes that this will sit proudly on my shelf next to the Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection and Namco Museum Virtual Arcade compilations! Check out the announcement trailer after the jump!

What’s this?? Something actually coming to the PlayStation Vita and coming SOON?

Yes, it’s true. Another bit of news from Sony‘s keynote at TGS was that PS Vita owners will finally get some PlayStation Plus love this coming November. The service will be available for $17.99 for three months or $49.99 for the year. Existing PS Plus subscribers on the PS3 will get the Vita access for free and new Plus subscribers on the Vita will get access to the PS3 freebies.
In addition, the vita will also get access to cloud saving as well!

I personally can’t wait to see the free access I can get to all of the dozen of games on the Vita. I bet it’s going to be everything I already bought. God I hope I waited out on Escape Plan for a reason… Also, let’s see if Sony gets around to cycling out some of those freebies on the PS3 that have been clogging up the free game slots since frickin E3. Seriously. Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One was not a great game and it hasn’t warranted a slot for as many months as it has. A good half of those games haven’t changed at all since E3 and it’s irritating… “Instant Game Collection” my ass. Let’s get some damned variety, Sony!!

Looks like Sony is kicking off the Tokyo Game Show with some not-so-secret news. There have been image leaks and rumors of a newer, slimmer PlayStation 3 for a good long while now and it’s finally come time for Sony to spill the beans…
