Activision today let go the development team at High Moon Studios who worked on the upcoming Deadpool game. This has not affected the part of High Moon that works on Transformers titles.

“Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenues – this is an ongoing process. With the completion of development on Deadpool, we are taking a reduction in staff at High Moon Studios to better align our development talent against our slate. Approximately, 40 full-time employees will be impacted globally. We are offering those employees who are impacted outplacement counseling services.”

As stated, forty employees total have been affected by these layoffs.

The title says is all. Sony’s PlayStation 3 released the Epix movie app to their store today for US users only. According to the official PlayStation Blog press release,

EPIX offers a host of streaming entertainment like comedy shows, championship boxing matches, concerts, and movies. It includes recent releases like The Avengers, The Hunger Games, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Captain America: The First Avenger and Transformers: Dark of the Moon. The team at EPIX has partnered with some of the top movie studios in the industry like Paramount, MTV Films, MGM and Lionsgate to offer over 3,000 HD movies for you to enjoy.

On top of that, PlayStation Plus members will be able to watch one free movie through the service every week, regardless of whether or not they are signed up for Epix. Even if you don’t have PS+, they are offering a free 14-day trial for the service to convince you how awesome it is. Epix is not currently available on the Vita, but they say it is most certainly on its way soon.

Sounds like a solid deal to me. So go forth, and watch movies!

In honor of PAX, PopCap offered some freebies to people who couldn’t make it. Peggle is completely free for Windows/MAC, along with some free turns/gems/freemium items for Hidden Agenda, Bejeweled Blitz and others. All these offers are still going until Thursday so snag them up at the PopCap PAX site.

Curve Studios have just confirmed via the US Official Playstation Blog, that super-hard stealth platformer Stealth Bastard will release sometime during the summer for PS3 and PS Vita.

The announcement of Stealth Bastard for release on the PS3 and PS Vita is just one more high-profile indie title to make the jump across from the PC; joining the already announced likes of Hotline Miami, Spelunky, Terraria and many more.

Now I have no idea what, if anything, from the new Thief trailer is actual gameplay, or if it’s all just cutscenes. Regardless, it’s really showing off what the Playstation 4 is capable of. Words like gorgeous and stunning have been overused, but so far I don’t think they’ve come up with more fitting vocabulary.

Check out Garrett, the Master Chi– I mean Master Thief, after the cut as he stealthily robs a man then almost gets caught, as he finds himself having to jump through a window several stories up just to get away.

I dunno. I don’t think he’s all masterful of a thief. BUT HE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL ALL THE WHILE.

Suda51 has dropped the second trailer for their next bloodbath extraordinare, Killer is Dead, and it looks bloody fantastic.

In keeping to the theme introduced with the first trailer, it plays out like normal; showcasing sexy ladies, Mondo Zappa – our Reservoir Dogs/Tetsuo protagonist, and what looks to be Barrett Wallace after having more replaced than just his hand. After the title shot we are treated to our second character introduction – Vivienne Squall (so we have now referenced Final Fantasies 7, 8, and 9 for those of you keeping score), Mondo’s boss. What kind of boss? Well, I suppose all will be revealed in time.

For now, check out all the gory glory after the cut.

Last year I did a roundup of some of my favorite “news” that cropped up on April 1st and I’m here to do it again. I’m doing it despite someone one of our fellow writers beating me to the April Fools punch, but I don’t care! Jokes!

Before the internet we were all happy celebrating April Fools day by covering our roommate’s entire bedroom with post-it notes, gift-wrapping everything – absolutely everything – on our co-workers desks, or jokingly burning down our neighbor’s house, then just as he returns from a hard day at work, jumping out from behind the shrubbery yelling, “OH MAN, I SO GOT YOU. YOU GOT OWNED. FUCKING OWNED.” while he begins sobbing at the loss of his cat and the rest of his worldly possessions. What? You never did that? Oh. Whatever.

In any case, nowadays the popular pranking holiday has taken widely to the world wide web, with many large companies spending a fair chunk of time, effort and money for a solid day’s worth of entertainment. Some will announce fake games, others will give new features to their maps, while others still will slightly tweak their normal layout, yielding outstanding results.

Below are just a few of my favorite jokes from the past, that actually had me believing for a while – before I double-checked the date.

If you are a part of Square Enix‘s reward scheme, now is the time to act! They announced just Thursday the rewards for 2012 members who have been diligently buying their games and registering codes on the Square Enix Members website.

In the past the prizes have been broken down into four tiers: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Ultimate/Platinum. This year they seem to have left the Bronze members out to dry, offering just three prizes for those more dedicated. Check out the full breakdown after the jump.

According to an exclusive report by Pocket Gamer, Apple has been liaising with various developers behind the scenes at GDC 2013 in order to ensure a groundswell of support for its own dedicated, official joypad that it hopes to show during next month’s Apple event.

Apparently, the company has been operating a meeting room at the show, but booked under a pseudonym company name in order to stay off the media radar.  Nevertheless, it seems “multiple developer sources” have confirmed the news.
