Metal Gear Solid artist Yoji Shinkwawa has said that fans should expect a ‘special surprise’ to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the IP.

Indeed, it was Shinkawa-san’s sketchy, brushstroke artistic stylings that have been synonymous with the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

As far as the surprise goes, I don’t imagine it will be a new game or an HD update of the original or anything like that; but I will be more than happy to be proved wrong.

You can see the announcement on the official Metal Gear Solid Facebook page.

It looks like that Bethesda have been busy at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, as the prolific publisher has just registered a trademark for the Fallout franchise to be used in “entertainment services in the nature of an on-going television program set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world,” according to the USPTO listing.

I’m pretty sure that a weekly TV show chronicling the exploits of a naive Vault Dweller would be brilliant; especially if they found the right company to produce it for them (i’m thinking AMC, Starz or HBO).

Trademarks have been filed before for this sort of thing; sometimes as a safeguarding measure with nothing actually ever coming of it, but regardless, something tells me we might actually get something from this.

Maybe.

Yes, it is true. The upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines from Gearbox Software has gone gold and is getting ready to get stamped onto plastic discs to be sold for public consumption in a matter of weeks. Aliens: Colonial Marines is set to launch on February 12th on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and will be available for $59.99.

There’s still time to get a preorder in for the Aliens: Colonial Marines Collector’s Edition as well, which at $99.99 comes with some bonus multiplayer content, a USCM Dossier with some miscellaneous goodies, and oh yeah, a mothereffing POWERLOADER FIGURINE, all packaged in a Xeno Hive box.

So yeah, if you’ve been undecided on dropping that extra $40 for the Collector’s Edition, now is the time to make up your mind! You’ve got less than a month before release! Maybe I’ll see you online, you know, if I’m not too busy posing my Powerloader on a shelf next to my Guild Wars 2 statue or a Harvest Moon plushie.

China has opened a World of Warcraft theme park that Blizzard has not approved nor has anything to do with. The copyright-infringing park cost $48 million dollars to build, and even I, a non-WoW player, thinks it looks pretty damn amazing.

Can’t get to China before Blizzard slaps them with an injunction, lawsuit or invades in orc costumes? Never fear, Reddit user FrancescaO_O went for you. And took pics. See them all here or click the jump for a few select pictures of awesome. Read More »

A vaguely misleading statement in a Wii U ad lead to the ad being banned in the UK this week. The ASA, Advertising Standards Authority, which regulates advertising in the UK, has determined that a Wii U ad that stated “Say someone wants to watch TV when you’re halfway through a game … do both, and everyone’s happy.” Was misleading in that it seemed to imply that all games can be transfered to the Wii U’s tablet.

While it’s true that only certain games can be ported over, banning the ad seems like overkill. Though maybe Nintendo will retaliate by having that 90′s fast talking guy from Hot Wheels commercials just list off every compatible game at the end of the ad.

Operation Rainfall will be complete in just a few short months…

Back in the days when Nintendo was adamant about dicking over it’s American customers regarding three high profile titles, the internet came together to demand we get those games. Two have already been released in the US, Xenoblade Chronicles courtesy Nintendo themselves, The Last Story thanks to XSEED Games.

XSEED Games has once again stepped up to complete the trilogy with today’s announcement that they will be releasing Pandora’s Tower in North America this spring. A specific release date has yet to be announced, nor has there been any word on a special edition along the lines of what Europe received last April, but you know we’ll keep you updated!

Ubisoft has today confirmed that the next entry in their Splinter Cell franchise, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, will endure a delay to August 20th, 2013; presumably to lavish a ton more polish (and hopefully a lot more stealth gameplay) onto the title.

Coinciding with the delay, Ubisoft have also released a new trailer for the game which shows more of the stealthy good stuff than any piece of media released thus far for the game.

Find it after the jump.
