In an announcement that will surprise nobody, the PSP is going strong in Japan right now – in fact, it’s currently the highest selling piece of hardware in the country.
Last week, the PSP sold over 37,000 units, with the Wii coming a close second with just 36,000 units sold. The PS3 comes in third with just over 27,000 consoles sold this week.
Full list after the break.

Suuuuuure it isn’t. But Yoshinori Ueda thinks otherwise, saying that the game is not softcore porn or meant to be degrading to women.
Speaking with Eurogamer, Ueda said the developers’ only intention was to create beautiful and lovely girls.
“That’s certainly not something we’re intentionally going for,” he said. “From our perspective, we’re trying to make beautiful women, that has been the focus – we want our characters to be beautiful. The DOA characters are strong and that they look the way they do is based on trying to bring out the beauty of women.
“We’re certainly not trying to degrade women. They have beautiful bodies. We’re trying to show off the beauty of their bodies but we’re not trying to be degrading about it – we’re trying to show that they are beautiful characters.
“It’s not that we were trying to make softcore porn. That’s definitely not the goal.”
His words were in response to an ESRB description of the game that called it “creepy voyeurism” (that description has since been taken down and an apology was offered).
“We know that everyone is going to have a different experience with the game – everyone has their own opinion,” stated Ueda. “For us, the goal was really to offer a little bit of paradise to the users, and we hope that people playing the game will be able to come away with the feeling that they’ve visited paradise.
“What we offer is a selection of things to play and activities to have fun with. The players have the freedom to play Paradise however they want.”
European release of the game on April 2nd.

By accident, the ESRB website revealed that Peter Molyneux’s 1994 title Magic Carpet will be available for the PS3 and PSP as a PSOne classic.
Also revealed was Sorcerer’s Maze from XS games which seems to be a puzzle game.
No official release dates for either game have been announced.
PS3 owners will finally be able to play a Peter Molyneux game! Shame it’s not Fable. :P

There’s a rather big update to the European PlayStation Store this week, and the biggest highlight of this one is pretty obvious – the Heavy Rain demo is finally available for everyone to download!
If you haven’t already, be sure to check out our Heavy Rain demo impressions. We were certainly impressed, and you hopefully will be too.

Nippon Ichi America have been forced to change the name of their “Holy Invasion of Privacy, Badman!” series of games because it is a ‘conflict of interest’ with an existing property.
The name of the franchise has been changed to “What did I Do to Deserve This, My Lord!?” with immediate effect. Due to the name change the original game has been removed from download on the Playstation Store so the name can be changed.
The sequel has also been delayed until May 4th to allow the necessary changes to be made.
The old name was a tribute to the old Batman TV series, where Robin would constantly exclaim “Holy ____, Batman!”
So it’s happened again: an anticipated title has gotten possessed by the dreaded delay ghost, and this time it’s Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. This was announced in a statement issued by Konami over the weekend. The delay has come as a surprise after both retail posters for the game had been printed, and the promotional site for the game was launched mere days ago.
“Unfortunately, we require more time in order to make the final adjustments and it is with the greatest regret that we have decided to change the release date for this product.
We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may cause customers who have already placed orders for this product or who are eagerly awaiting its release, as well as other concerned parties.”
The game’s producer, Hideo Kojima, is less than pleased with the game’s delay, as announced in Kojima Productions own blog:
“I always preach to the staff, ‘You must not have a delay after a release date has been announced. There is no greater crime as a game developer.’ Official announcement of a release date is nothing less than a promise to fans and business partners. In other words, a release date change is like betraying the expectations of everyone.”
This week’s European PlayStation Store update is a pretty generous helping, and includes an additional chapter for Assassin’s Creed 2, and new skins for the Uncharted 2 multiplayer, amongst your usual helpings of LittleBigPlanet, Guitar Hero, and Rock Band offerings.
Enjoy!

The latest Japanese hardware charts have just come out, and the results are quite surprising – the PSP has topped the charts for a second week in a row.
The PSPgo, on the hand, came last, selling a stellar 2K units in the process!
So… the first trailer for the Tekken movie has just been released, and you know what? It doesn’t look half bad, actually.
Now, bear with me a moment.
This is Tekken. Anyone expecting Shakespeare is missing the point a little. But this clip does have one thing going for it that a lot of video game adaptations don’t; authenticity to the franchise.
There’s no denying that the makers have gone out of their way to make the characters look like their video game counterparts – nearly every character looks exactly like their video game counterpart – and some of the fights look pretty damn brutal.
This isn’t going to change the way you view the world or think about any deep or meaningful philosophies that will change your life forever… but it looks like it’ll be less of a train wreck than the recent Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li movie was at least.
It should be an enjoyable and brainless way to spend an hour and a half of your life when it hits cinemas in April 2010.
Ubisoft has released the first details on their latest addition to the Prince of Persia franchise, providing information to the trailer released this weekend.
Forgotten Sands – release May next year – is set to “expand the Prince of Persia universe with a new storyline, the introduction of new characters, and new powers of nature and time,” according to Ubisoft.
The game, which takes place between The Sands of Time and Warrior Within, sees the Prince visiting his brother’s kingdom after his adventures in Azad. Once there he finds the royal palace under siege by a mighty army.
“When the decision is made to use the ancient power of the Sand in a desperate gamble to save the kingdom from total annihilation, the Prince will embark on an epic adventure in which he will learn to bear the mantle of true leadership, and discover that great power often comes with a great cost,” says Ubisoft.
The game will be out on all platforms, but the Wii, DS and PSP versions will be “a different gaming experience” from the XBox 360 and PS3 versions.
Personally I want them to continue the storyline established in the previous Prince of Persia game. The reboot wasn’t that bad. Full list of features after the break.
A generous update this week. Highlights include the Bayonetta demo (which you can find on Xbox Live today as well), and more DLC for more games than you can shake a very long and very big stick at.
