Today was the finale of E3 2011 (at least for the main events), and Nintendo took the stage and knocked it out of the park with the announcement of their new console. Previously code named Project Cafe, the new Nintendo console is now named Wii U.

The announcement of Nintendo’s new console Wii U was met with some confusion, both from the press and regular gamers viewing the press conference. Nintendo didn’t have much to mention as far as first party games were concerned, but a ton of third party developers are on board to bring several great titles to the WiiU. Nintendo just announced new Super Smash Bros for both the 3DS handheld, and the just-announced console, WiiU. I’ll give you a moment to digest that. Both games will be cross-compatible with each other, as well. No release date announced yet, so we’ll keep you updated.

During it’s E3 2011 Press Conference, Nintendo showed off a number of games off in a preview trailer of sorts for it’s 3DS system. The games shown include Mario Kart, Kid Icarus, Starfox 3D, Super Mario, and Luigi’s Mansion 2

Nintendo’s press conference started off strong with a Legend of Zelda retrospective, with a live orchestra and choir accompanying footage from past Zelda console games. The intro montage finally capped up with previously unseen footage from Skyward Sword and the Zelda 25th Anniversary logo. Shigeru Miyamoto took the stage to discuss the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series.

Sony came to E3 this year with a fair amount of hard hitters. Plenty of games were announced, in addition to game content exclusive to the PS3. Working with EA, Sony could announce the following PS3 exclusives. PS3 owners will get an exclusive course in SSX: Mount Fuji, constructed from satellite images of Mount Fuji. Amid the torrent of surprises coming out of Sony’s E3 2011 Press Conference, Sony let out a barrage of games that support their Move motion controller. These games include BioShock: Infinite, Saints Row 3, and the new Star Trek co-op game. On a side note, the PS3 version of BioShock: Infinite will also include the first BioShock game for free.

Dust 514 was just officially announced at the Sony E3 Conference, and revealed to be exclusive to the PS3 platform. Dust 514 is the MMOFPS being developed by CCP Games, the same developers who made the Space-Juggernaut MMO EvE Online. Dust 514 was confirmed to tie directly into EvE online, with players from both platforms being able to interact with each other. Trailer will be updated when it’s available.
