Bungie regrets not having matchmaking in ODST’s firefight - February 21, 2010 by Kyle Gaddo

In an interview with OXM, Brian Jarrard states that he and the rest of the Bungie team regret not having a matchmaking option for Halo 3: ODST’s Firefight game mode and speculates that that may be a reason that ODST is not as popular as other Halo games.

“I regret not being able to go back and make Firefight in ODST work and have match-making,” he told OXM. “I think we would have loved to have done that.

“We’ve heard it from the fans, we’ve heard it from the press. It’s definitely something we’d have loved to be able to do but we didn’t have the scope on the project. We didn’t have the time.

“We accomplished a tremendous amount, but that’s probably the reason ODST isn’t being played as much right now as we’d like. It has had a shorter lifecycle than any of the Halo titles before.

“But Reach is our big chance to make up for some of those things.”

Or maybe it’s because ODST was a mediocre game in most aspects? Dunno, maybe that’s just me.

Halo: Reach beta confirmed for May 3 - February 11, 2010 by Jens Erik Vaaler

Halo: Reach to be biggest game of 2010! (According to Microsoft) - January 15, 2010 by Jens Erik Vaaler

The Halo franchise is popular. That’s pretty much fact. But can it outsell games like God of War III and Call of Duty 7 in 2010? Microsoft seems to think so.

Director of Xbox marketing Stephen McGill told CVG that Halo: Reach will take the series “to an entirely new level”, something he hopes will draw new players to the franchise.

“It’s an exciting time for Halo fans and we’re thrilled by the response from trailer shown at the VGAs last month which was phenomenal.

“Our hope for Halo: Reach is to be the biggest title of 2010 not only for Xbox, but across all platforms – a forecast which has been mirrored by industry professionals.”

Is the power of Halo that strong? Who knows. It’ll certainly sell, but it’s going up against some true heavy hitters.

Master Chief ring is expensive - August 17, 2009 by Jens Erik Vaaler

Do you like Master Chief? Of course you do! Then you probably want to wear a ring bearing his likeness, to get you through that Halo withdrawal you’ve been going through in between Halo Wars and Halo: ODST.

The ring is designed by the artists at Weta Workshop in New Zealand, made of 100% sterling silver. Though before you buy it, you should ask yourself if you’re willing to pay the price, because the Master Chief ring will set you back almost two hundred American dollars. Though I must say the amount of detail is quite astonishing.

If you own every other bit of Halo accessory, though, this is probably just the thing for you.

Halo Wars leaderboards get erased - July 29, 2009 by Michael O'Connor

Halo Wars leaderboards get erased

Due to an apparent technical glitch, Halo Wars’ Xbox Live leaderboards has been wiped clean. Completely. Not a trace of information left.

All stats that appear on the leaderboard have reverted back to their launch day status, including all singleplayer, multiplayer and Trueskill leaderboards, as well as every ouch of matchmaking data that was on the system.

According to an official post on the Halo Wars website, it’s as of yet unknown if the data can be restored. The Xbox Live team is investigating the problem right now, and will provide an update when one becomes available

Seriously guys, you’ve never heard of a backup?

Bungie done with Halo franchise - July 28, 2009 by Jens Erik Vaaler

Bungie done with Halo franchise

Developer Bungie have finally decided to leave the Halo franchise, and says Halo: Reach will be the last Halo title they’ll develop. The company has been commited to the series for many years, and ODST is shaping up to be bigger than the company expected.

So what’s next for Bungie? No one really knows, except for Bungie of course, but their new IP is apparently close to getting a publisher. The game isn’t tied to any platform, but has been in development for a while.

“I think internally we’ll know sometime soon. I don’t handle these things, but I’d imagine we’re going to know way before we make the public announcement of who’s handling that! But sure, I think those talks are, I guess, close,” said Lars Bakken of Bungie.

The phrase “From the developers of Halo” will probably sell anything, so I doubt Bungie will have trouble finding a publisher.

Halo: ODST will be a full priced title - June 12, 2009 by Michael O'Connor

Halo ODST has, for many months been tooted as an expansion of sorts to Halo 3. Shorter campaign, less overall content, and with the Halo 3 multi-player mode built in. As you’d would expect, an expansion would normally cost less than a full price game.

Apparently, this won’t be the case with Halo: ODST.

“At the time of those statements, the overall scope of Halo 3: ODST was not yet finalized, and since then the project has grown increasingly more ambitious,” Microsoft informed Joystiq.

E3 2009: Halo Reach to launch “fall 2010″ - June 4, 2009 by Jens Erik Vaaler

Microsoft @ E3 2009

The release date for Halo: Reach has been somewhat nailed down recently, with a tentative “next autumn”, rather than the “2010″ date given at Microsoft’s E3 press conference.

“We don’t have an actual firm date for it yet, but I don’t anticipate it being day and date with the game,” said a staff member at Bungie to Gamespot.

“I can say you will need the Halo 3: ODST disc to access the beta when it does become available. I can confirm that that beta will go live sometime between the release of Halo 3: ODST on September 22nd and the release of Halo: Reach next fall.”

Halo: Reach is the next “big Halo game” and will focus on a planet named “Reach” and some Spartans, though probably not Master Chief.

Expect more Master Chief in Halo’s future - March 3, 2009 by Michael O'Connor

It kinda goes without saying, but Frank O’Connor hinted to USA Today that there will likely be plenty more Master Chief in Halo’s future.

Talking about Halo 3: ODST, Frank let slip about the franchise’s lead hero, “I doubt we have seen the last of Master Chief,” he said.

He also discussed the new game, ODST.

“It’s a lot of game. You play the game through the point of view of an ODST. They are dropped into combat from orbit. They have a rivalry with the Spartans that is well known to the fans of the fiction. We finally let you into their boots as it were. …It’s kind of a detective story in a way. But it is much more action-packed than that.”
