The studio behind the commercially and critically successful XCOM and Civilisation titles, Firaxis Games, has announced their next strategic foray; the freemium iOS strategy title Haunted Hollow.
As the moniker suggests, Haunted Hollow marks a significant thematic departure for the studio. Gone are the po-faced issues of world domination and alien invasion, instead replaced by haunted houses, cartoony ghouls and ghosts and all manner of charming things that go bump in the night.
We’ve got all the details (and the screens) after the break!
The premise is simple; players each have a mansion in which they can build new rooms to create a new kind of scary monster such as, but not limited to, ghosts, vampires, werewolves and witches.
Once a horde of scary beasties has been assembled, they can then be sent forth into the town and scare the humans out of their houses; allowing them to haunt the house and effectively place it under your control. Whilst this is going on, obviously the other player (or NPC, if you fancy going at it solo) will be building up their mansion and sending out their creations to take over houses too.
What eventually results is a tug-of-war between the two sides as each vies for control of the town; often attacking the other sides supernaturals with their own and attempting to ‘scare out’ the squatting beasties of the other side.
A bit of chaos is introduced too with the human element occasional rising up to form a mob who will threaten to burn down all of your captured houses; forcing you to turn your attentions away from your competition and deal with them in earnest.
The game is due to release sometime this Spring on iOS for free. IAP‘s will be available for players who wish to spend their hard earned cash to unlock new sets of monsters.
