According to Eurogamer the European Wii U Virtual Console is still using the crappy 50Hz refresh rate for games (just like on the Wii) instead of 60Hz like everyone else. This is sort of a legacy format thing since PAL TVs traditionally were slower than NTSC TVs, but that hasn’t been the case in years.

While 10Hz difference may not seem like a big deal, it is noticeable, and it also compresses the graphics and messes with the borders.  Hop on over to Eurogamer for a side by side comparison to see the difference.
