NintendoDirect

This morning Nintendo had itself another of it’s Nintendo Direct press events and there certainly was a nice chunk of information to come out with info on new Mario games, Virtual Console on Wii U, and the next gagme from Monolith Soft!

Get the details after the jump!

  • Virtual Console coming to Wii U after spring update

A spring update is on the way which not only improves the speed of launching software (down to only 3 minutes instead of 5?) but will also bring with it the Wii U Virtual Console launching with a selection of NES and SNES games. The lineup will NOT include all of the titles currently available on the Wii Virtual Console, but that is due to the games being developed anew for the Wii U with the ability to save progress and even play directly on the Wii U GamePad.

NES games are expected to cost $5-$6 and SNES games will run $8-$9. Folks who already own a certain game on the Wii Virtual Console will get them at a reduced cost of $1-$1.50, which is pretty nice. Not sure if it detects what software is presently on the Wii portion of your console, or if it links up to your purchase history on your Club Nintendo account or what. Game Boy Advance games will also make their way to the Wii U Virtual Console

  • 30 cent promo on Wii U Virtual Console

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Famicom, there will be select titles available on the Wii U Virtual Console at a highly reduced price of 30 cents for a period of only 30 days. The first game will be Balloon Fight and despite the official Virtual Console not launching until later this spring, Balloon Fight is supposedly going to be available TODAY! The game will be on sale for only 30 days until it goes back to standard pricing. A new game is planned to be on sale each month with F-Zero, Punch Out!, Kirby’s Adventure, Super Metroid, Yoshi, and Donkey Kong appearing through July.

  • New Mario related titles on the way

It was announced that a new 3D Mario game is in the works while Mario Kart be getting a new title as well. BOTH coming for the Wii U. Shocker announcement, right? The big news is that they’ll be playable at E3, so hopes are high we might see them before the year is over. The Kirby’s Epic Yarn crew is also working on a new Yoshi title for the Wii U in a gorgeous knit style. Oh, and we’ll have Smash Bros. news at E3!

  • I have another reason to hate Japan…

Japan is getting Mother 2 on the Wii U Virtual Console this March. If you aren’t aware, Mother 2 is known as EarthBound in the US and is my absolute favorite game of all time. I REALLY hope we get it over here…

  • Wind Waker update?

It was announced that there are TWO new Legend of Zelda games on the way. There is an all new game in the works, of course, but there is also an all new HD remake of Wind Waker coming to the Wii U, planned for this fall. The remake will feature gameplay improvements and a complete graphical overhaul in glorious HD.

  • Fire Emblem crossover in the works

And it’s with ATLUS?? That’s right, Fire Emblem will be crossing paths with Shin Megami Tensei in a new game! There’s no details yet, but ATLUS and Nintendo are working together to make this a game for the ages!

  • Monolith Soft is back!

A brief trailer was shown at the end of the presentation (which we will have on the site later) that shows some familiar open world hack and slash RPG action finishing up with an all so familiar X logo. Looks like a new Xenoblade title is on the way!

Of course there were plenty of trailers that were shown as well and we will do our best to share as many as possible in the next few hours! If you just can’t wait, go check out the full Nintendo Direct event yourself over on the Nintendo Direct Website!
