You guys have heard of Swedish developer Starbreeze right?  They’re the code-hands responsible for such bloodthirsty shootery as The Chronicles of Riddick, The Darkness and Syndicate, which is notable because their newest game, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, is possibly as far from that blood-soaked, bullet-riddled legacy as it ever could be.

Boasting far more in common with the likes of Fable and Trine, the game is a fairy tale style adventure where you are tasked with guiding two siblings across the land to find the cure for their ailing father.

We’ve got more details and the first gameplay footage (captured by IGN) after the break.

Set in the sort of charmingly enrapturing fairytale world that the Fable series attempted to weave early on, you’ll stumble across many different situations and conundrums that need solving, requiring you to switch one from brother to another (in a fashion similar to Trine) in order to conquer them.

Each of the brother has unique characteristics too; with the younger one being faster and more mischievous than his decidedly stronger and more mature sibling, you have to use the right brother correctly in the right circumstance to get the desired result.

It looks like it might very well be an early contender for one of the essential downloadable offerings of 2013.

Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons is due to arrive on PC, XBLA and PSN sometime in 2013.
