If any game company out there deserves a nice, fully featured game compilation, it’s frickin Rockstar Games. I mean come on, they make pretty much nothing but amazing games and they really know how to make DLC that is worth the price of admission.
So why is their upcoming Rockstar Games Collection: Edition 1 such a half-assed, lazy mess?
Get the full details after the jump…
In theory, the lineup looks solid. LA Noire, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City, Red Dead Redemption, and Midnight Club: Los Angeles Complete Edition is a collection of four great releases, but if they are really going for a complete, end-all-be-all collection of Rockstar gaming, why skimp on three of the four games?
Red Dead already has a Game of the Year Edition with all the DLC included. The Grand Theft Auto release in this package doesn’t even actually include Grand Theft Auto IV, which itself has a GOTY Edition with the Episodes content included. LA Noire has it’s own “Complete” edition out with all the DLC included and fully integrated into the game expanding it to four discs on Xbox instead of the original three.
The only real, complete game we are getting in this package is Midnight Club: Los Angeles, which is easily the weakest game in this package. Everything else is lacking vital content somewhere and it really makes me think this is just an afterthought in the minds of Rockstar, which is sad because I love so many of these games…
With so many GOTY and Complete editions on the market featuring games in this compilation, it’s an absolute shame that Rockstar is putting so little effort into things. But hey! Can’t wait for Rockstar Games Collection: Edition 2 with Grand Theft Auto IV, Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare, Bully, and Rockstar Table Tennis! I wont lie. I love Bully…
If, for some reason, you don’t own any of the Game of the Year Editions or Complete Editions of these games already, you can get this collection on PS3 and Xbox 360 on November 6th for $59.99. I would strongly suggest spending that $60 on GTA IV GOTY and Red Dead GOTY games instead. They’re $30 each now. Cheaper used.
