Booth babes, the scantily clad ladies hired only to attract people people to a convention booth, are a common presence at a lot of conventions ranging from Comic-Con to E3. But next year Eurogamer Expo is putting a stop to it. PAX and its sister show PAX East already banned the practice and Eurogamer is following suit.
Having booth babes is not only showcasing women as a consumable product, it’s diminishing to the games being highlighted. If you need a woman in a bikini to get people into your booth than obviously your game isn’t good enough to do it on its own.
As a female gamer and someone who wants the people in the booth to actually know about the products they’re showcasing, I’m glad they’re putting a ban into effect. I hope it spreads to Comic-Con, E3 and beyond.
