
Ubisoft has today announced Rayman Jungle Run for iOS and Android formats.
The game is essentially the endless running bonus sections from Rayman Origins blown up into a full mobile title using the splendidly powerful UbiArt engine which powered the gorgeous 2011 platformer.
It supports Game Center and has hidden ‘surprises’ which can be unlocked through extended play.
And yes, it all looks very nice and pretty to look at, but I just can’t shake an immense feeling of what could have been had this been envisioned as a ‘proper’ platform game instead.
There is basically no excuse for a game, especially one with such strong platforming pedigree as Rayman, to be reinterpreted as a endless runner when other games have proven that you can in fact, create perfectly workable and responsive controls for a touch screen platformer.
