Looks like Sony is kicking off the Tokyo Game Show with some not-so-secret news. There have been image leaks and rumors of a newer, slimmer PlayStation 3 for a good long while now and it’s finally come time for Sony to spill the beans…
The system is clocking in at 20% smaller and 25% lighter than the current PS3 Slim model meaning that I guess we will start calling this one the PS3 Slimmerer model. It will launch of September 25th (HOLY CRAP NEXT WEEK) for $269.99 as a limited edition bundle featuring the Game of the Year Edition of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception as well as a voucher for more than $30 worth of digital content for DUST 514 as well as a 250GB hard drive to store your games contents thingies on.
Another new limited edition bundle will launch on October 30th with a whopping 500GB hard drive and will feature a tie in with Assassin’s Creed III, which Sony is quick to mention will feature four exclusive levels, Only on PS3™! The total on that bad boy is gonna be $299.99. So for waiting a month and paying an extra $30, you get double the hard drive space and Assassin’s Creed!
We will eventually see the new PS3 Slimmerer available sans bundles, but no word on WHEN we will see them without the fancy pack in deals. And alas, they STILL haven’t put PS2 compatibility back in to the systems, so just remember to buy the digital versions when they release them online as a PS2 Classic, but keep that horrible ugly disc in that gaudy black case with the same game on the shelf where it belongs. Or just put it in a box and forget it exists. Sony has.

Gaming as got to a stage where it is money grabbing now. PS2 had compatibility for PS1 games then why can’t the PS3 play PS2 games since they say in the adverts ” it only does everything (not) “. Instead they are making us pay AGAIN just to play a PS2 game that we had already. It’s just stealing. Look at early 60gb and 80gb models PS2 emulation. Why can’t Sony just add PS2 emulation in a firmware update instead of making us pay for a game we already got just to play on that system.
We have been loyal to PLAYSTATION and we don’t get what we want since we pay a lot of money for their products. That goes for everything to do with gaming. Graphic designers etc etc just see us a money symbols.
@AshleyW94, I agree. The PS3 even has PS1 game compatibility. The only reason they took the PS2 compatibility away is becuase they wanted to sell more PS2′s but now that the PS2′s are discontinued they need to bring the compatibility back to the PS3. These game and console makers are really beginning to nickel and dime us every chance they get. It’s our fault as consumers for accepting this which allows these companies to get away with it.
