Its been a while since we last heard anything concerning the development of a Killzone title for the Playstation Vita.

So, as luck would have it, Sony would nominate Gamescom as the stage with which to debut a trailer for the series Vita debut.  Oh and it has a name now too – Killzone: Mercenary.

The trailer itself gives away very little in terms of gameplay; the majority of it is a live-action affair focusing on the titular theme of the title with folks being ransomed for cash and the line between friend and enemy blurring somewhat.

Though the gameplay that is shown is very much on the lean side, it still nevertheless showcases a game that looks streets ahead of the also recently announced Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified.  Not only does it boast visuals that are very close to its PS3 older brother but we also get to see the PS Vita controls working too, with predictable emphasis being put on using the touchscreen for all manner of pleasant stuff like melee executions and so on.

Aside from the trailer, very little else is known about the title, but even at this juncture it certainly looks like it’ll be a solid entry in the series and a more than worthy FPS for Sony’s hopefully resurgent handheld.

Have a look at the trailer below and see what you think:

Killzone: Mercenary is due to arrive exclusively on Playstation Vita sometime in 2013.
