To say fans have been clamoring for the new Final Fantasy games “Type-0” and “Versus XIII” would be an understatement, even though recent speculation was high at least for the latter game that it had unofficially and quietly ended production. With a tweet from Yoichi Wada and a track from the supposed game appearing for download on Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, that rumor was pretty immediately debunked.
Now Theatrhythm has gone and done it again. Square Enix announced today the “final schedule” of add-on audio tracks for the rhythm game that will be available for download starting throughout the month of September.
September 6, 2012
1. “The Extreme” (FINAL FANTASY VIII)
2. “Esper Battle” (FINAL FANTASY XII)
3. “Fight 2” (FINAL FANTASY IV)
4. “Dungeon” (FINAL FANTASY II)
September 13, 2012
1. “The Castle” (FINAL FANTASY VIII)
2. “The Battle for Freedom” (FINAL FANTASY XII)
3. “Undersea Shrine” (FINAL FANTASY)
4. “What Becomes of Us” (FINAL FANTASY: Type-0)
September 20, 2012
1. “Force Your Way” (FINAL FANTASY VIII)
2. “Ragnarok” (FINAL FANTASY XI)
3. “Matoya’s Cave” (FINAL FANTASY)
4. “Tower of Mages” (FINAL FANTASY II)
Note the final song on September 13: “What Becomes of Us” from Type-0. Does this mean the title, released in Japan for the PSP nearly a full year ago, is still planning to come stateside? Or perhaps they’re just teasing us with a taste of that which we shall never have? Only time will tell, but this guy is hoping it’s a sign of good things to come.
The songs listed above, as well as a plethora of others, are available for $0.99 on Nintendo’s e-Shop. In case you’ve been holding out on buying the game because you’re just not sure if it’s your bag, a demo version has finally been released for download as well. I thoroughly enjoy the game and recommend you check out the demo if you’re on the fence about it.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy is currently available for the 3DS as a hard copy or digital download via Nintendo’s e-Shop for $39.99.

For a second there I thought you meant there was a song by the BAND Type-O Negative and was like, “Say Whaaa?”
@Travie Yak, Yeah, I don’t think their music would mesh so great with Final Fantasy. ;) Travie, you so silly.
Actually, the price of Theatrhythm has dropped at GameStop to $29.99. I’m not sure if it’s a limited time price, or a permanent price drop, but I just picked it up for that price on Sunday.
@Carlene, Probably just a sale. I checked GameStop.com right now and it’s listed at $39.99 still.
I don’t think Square would drop the price on a new release so quickly. They like money too much.
@Joe Cammisa, This is correct. I recently saw that GameStop/EB Games had Theatrhythm and Kingdom Hearts 3D both on sale for 25% off, at $29.99. But that is, indeed, just a sale. Nice job picking it up for the discounted price. :)
