With Capcom‘s finger firmly depressed on the ‘Make Trailer’ button at Gamescom today, it should come as little surprise that Resident Evil 6 would get the trailer treatment too.
Resident Evil 6′s trailer depicts a section of Jake’s campaign where he and a lady friend are holding a snowy cabin against a number of mutant and gun-toting invaders.
While the gameplay certainly seems a tad more frenetic than Resident Evil 5, there are nonetheless a couple of things that stick out a bit. Firstly, the mutant creature that humanoid invaders turn into (and not to mention the ‘mouth clamp’ sequence that they trigger when in melee range) certainly bears more than a passing resemblance to John Carpenter‘s seminal sci-fi horror classic The Thing. Inspiration is all fine and well, but to my caffeine infused eyes, they looked a little too similar for my liking.
Secondly, some of the animation transitions just look, well… off. You can really notice it when our scarred, wise-cracking hero gets scooped up by one of these creatures himself and manages to escape, triggering a weird jerking movement which forces him back to the default position.
In all other things though, the trailer certainly does an admirable job of conveying the typical sort of action bombast that we can expect from the title later this year, with a great amount of over-the-shoulder blasting, hiding behind cover and close quarters combat.
Hopefully, Capcom will iron out these little issues, but y’know, time’s ticking and all that.
