Being one of the standout titles in Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade promotion, side-scrolling zombie survival title Deadlight has garnered a great deal of attention; captivating folks with it’s grimy post-apocalyptic aesthetic and taking equal inspirational cues from previous XBLA lumineries Shadow Complex and Limbo.

Today, Tequila Studios have released their third developmental diary for the game; this time focusing on the art aspect of the highly anticipated title and how reality is used as an effective reference point to keep the experience feeling grounded and suitably intense.

I’m loving the down-to-earth grittiness of the setting and so long as the platforming elements aren’t any clunkier than they need to be, I could quite easily see this becoming a flagship title for Xbox Live Arcade.

Take a look for yourself and see:

Part one (the 80′s setting) & part two (creating a story) can be seen below should you wish to indulge further:

Deadlight is due to be released exclusively on Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox 360 on August 1st.  It will retail for 1,200 MSP.

  1. This and Dust are the two titles from this year’s Summer of Arcade that I’m looking forward to the most. The rest look look incredibly average.

Not surprised to see Another World and Flashback being inspirations for this. Man, that twitches the nostalgic bone a little, doesn’t it?

@Michael O’Connor, Certainly. I could never get enough of the likes of Another World and Flashback.

Really, *really* hope that the platforming element shakes out.
