Sony Computer Entertainment have said today that the long awaited PSone classics support for the PlayStation Vita will be added in Firmware Update 1.8. No set date has been given yet, but I wager that if they have announced it now, it won’t be too long.

It’s also a little unclear as to whether all titles will work straight from the start. I would have figured it was given, but the E3 press conference mentioned that Final Fantasy VII (and Tomb Raider, I believe) will work straight away, while support for other titles will be added in time. Given that even new classics can work on both the PS3 and PSP as soon as they are released, I’m not sure how support can’t be there for the Vita as well.

Still, full use of shoulder buttons via use of the back touch pad? Count me in.
