If there was one game that swallowed up whatever semblance of pocket money I had back in the late 80′s, it was Bad Dudes (or Bad Dudes Vs DragonNinja as it was known). Just the notion of jumping up and down between platforms, punching dudes in the face with reckless abandon and fighting an annoying-as-all-hell boss on top of speeding eighteen wheeler pretty much comprised my weekend, every weekend for a good few Summers.
Now, as is en vogue for a lot stuff that came out in the 80′s, there is a Kickstarter which is interested in bringing a sequel to market.
“The DragonNinja clan is up to their old tricks. It’s been 23 years since Blade and Striker foiled their operation and brought the President home for some hamburgers, and now they’re back for revenge!
It’s time to show you’ve still got the stuff after all these years. Time to come out of retirement, to show you are still bad enough dudes to rescue the president.” – The Kickstarter blurb reads.
It gets better too with – “Bad Dudes 2 is the sequel that nobody knew they wanted, until now!” – the text gleefully exclaims.
“Bad Dudes 2 pushes the intricate plot and extensive character development even further. The DragonNinja are back, they’ve kidnapped the president again, and it’s time for Blade and Striker to come out of retirement, get back in shape, and get bad!”
At the very least they seem to have a playful sense of humour in regards to the franchise and seem committed to doing some justice to the long-forgotten fighter:
“Pinstripe Games understands the appeal of Bad Dudes. We understand that the game and it’s story have reached cult status for a reason, and we plan on embracing that. Bad Dudes 2 will be just as ridiculous, but with the modern conventions and modern mentality to make that ridiculousness even more over the top, and the action as outrageous as possible.”
The game is tipped to be on PC at the moment and offers single-player, local co-op and online-co-op modes. Presumably, more formats are likely if they do well with their funding target which is currently set at $80,000.
They have $2,103 raised at present.
Personally, i’d love to see a new Bad Dudes game, but i’m not sure if the market at large even remembers the game let alone identifies with it anyway.
If like me though, you have a hankering for it, drop em’ a few bucks on their Kickstarter page.
