With the official release of Nintendo’s next 2D 3DS platforming Mario effort now just around the corner, the Kyoto based company has released a brand new trailer for it which you can see after the jump.

The latest official trailer for New Super Mario Bros 2 contains little in the of surprises, especially when compared to it’s 2006 NDS predecessor, but there are still a number of cool things to see.   First and foremost of these new things appears to be the ‘bling’ mode (I don’t think its actually called that, but 50 Cent would likely endorse it) where just about everything on the level goes all King Midas on you for a limited time.  One amusing example of this was the Koopa Troopa which instead of throwing those annoying hammers every two seconds,  throws coins at the plucky plumber instead when the mode has been engaged.

Brilliant.

Overall though, it just looks extremely solid, has no shortage of visual charm and appears to be eminently playable.  Par for the course for a Mario title then, handheld or otherwise.

New Super Mario Bros 2 is due to release exclusively on 3DS on August 19th this year in both European and North American territories.
