Machinarium, one of the most fiendishly hard yet abstractly beautiful point and click titles of recent times, is due to put some roots down on the PS Vita if a new listing by ESRB is to be believed.

Originally released in 2009 on the PC, the Amanita Design coded, accolade attracting title soon received a conversion to Mac and iOS formats in 2011, with an Android version following in May of this year.

A PS3 version of the game was also announced early last year and is still in the deepest, darkest depths of the Sony submission process.  It’s due to be released sometime this Summer.

Machinarium would be a perfect fit for the handheld Sony powerhouse.   The point and click gameplay mechanics would lend themselves extremely well to the touch screen capabilities of the machine and from a visual standpoint, the visual vibrancy and sharpness that the Vita’s gorgeous OLED screen would allow will be able to provide tremendous clarity to the resplendent art that the game overflows with.

I would imagine that a release would come to pass before the year is out, so stay tuned for release date specifics and pricing.

Machinarium is available now for PC Windows, Linux, Mac OSX, iOS, Blackberry and Android platforms.

@Sarah, Looking back at the article, that’s news to me too! Colour me disappointed to recall that it isn’t actually out yet and is instead due out this Summer, being that it’s stuck in the middle of the software submissions and approvals process.

Not long to wait then eh?

(And thanks for the spot – I let my fingers run away with me a little bit) :)
