Hot off the heels of the confirmation regarding the game’s price and release details, comes the very welcome news that Baldur’s Gate: Extended Edition will facilitate cross-platform co-operative play.

The awesome feature was alluded to by one Mr. Trent Oster, Creative Director at Beamdog Software who enthusiastically tweeted – “#bgee will have co-op multiplayer and will work across platforms. iPad can play with Android, Mac and PC. On happy gaming family.”

Multiplayer functionality had been hinted at – way back in the mists of March, but only now have the details regarding said functionality began to manifest.

It’ll be very intriguing to see how this all shakes out.  For example, who would be in charge of the conversations with the NPC’s?  Would it allow drop-in/drop-out co-op?

All these questions need to be answered.  *Raises eyebrow*.

Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition is due to release on PC, Mac and iOS sometime this September.  An Android version is due to follow at a later date to be confirmed.

  1. I was already looking forward to this, but this has pretty much made it a guaranteed buy.

See you guys on the iPad in a couple of weeks.

  2. I too am absolutely stonked by this.

Its the icing on the cake and I really hope it succeeds in order to allow the floodgates to open; allowing the likes of BG2 and IWD to crop up on the tablet format.

    Great stuff.

We must gather our party before venturing forth!
