Makers of deceptive-but-delicious Mexican fast food Taco Bell recently had a giveaway involving the $5 box that would give purchasers a chance to win a PlayStation Vita. There was to be a “winner every 15 minutes,” but there was an alarmingly high number of winners. Probably even more than the company had anticipated.
Unsurprisingly, Taco Bell reports a large number of false positives and will not be providing the new Sony handheld to winners who received the message stating that they had won (pending verification).
In addition, Taco Bell representatives have said: “After a thorough investigation, and an additional review by the independent company administering the promotion, it was confirmed that these entrants viewed these messages as a result of others who attempted to gain illegal entry and defraud the system.”
As said, “winner” will not receive consoles, but will be entered into a second drawing to possibly win a Vita for their personal use.
Oh, those crafty “hackers”.
