Square-Enix‘s Mafia Wars clone, Knights of the Crystals, will be shutting down its servers and be removed from Facebook on February 29th of this year.

Being in service for a little over a year, Knights of the Crystals went live on November 3rd, 2010 and will run its course through the end of next month. With characters designed by Ryoma Ito, the game attracted many casual Facebookers with a lot of love for Final Fantasy to endlessly click the same quests and acquire new jobs to defeat strong in-game enemies and other Facebook players.

Below is the official announcement for the game’s upcoming demise.

The game will be playable until its end, but you will no longer be able to purchase in-game items or the game’s currency, Square-Enix Coins.

@Maaya, They weren’t making any money off of it, probably.

@Kim Thomsen, The only likely reason that they’re shutting it down is because it wasn’t making any money.
