UPDATE: I received an email from Activision’s PR company clarifying the paintball mode issue. The fix reads as follows:
“For online multiplayer, paintball is exclusive to Gamestop consumers, you can’t get it without an unlock code. It’s still available as an offline mod for Mi6 Ops missions though.”
Sorry about the confusion, and we hope that clears things up!
ORIGINAL: As the release date of Activision‘s upcoming game GoldenEye 007: Reloaded is closing, the US release being the 1st of November, Activision has announced a Gamestop pre-order exclusive, namely, the Paintball Mode.
You remember the Paintball mode right? You unlocked it after beating Dam on the Secret Agent difficulty setting in 2:40 or less. Don’t worry though, the paintball mode will still be in the game, it just won’t be unlocked from the get go.
The confusion started when Activision delivered this quote:
Starting today, fans can pre-order GoldenEye 007: Reloaded at GameStop to receive a unique exclusive code to unlock the Paintball Mode Modifier in Split-screen and Online private multiplayer matches. This fan-favorite modifier causes bullets to leave behind paint splats on walls and surfaces all across the map. Additionally, they’ll receive early access into the Classic Conflict Mode in Online public and private multiplayer modes.
This made it sounds like that the only way to enable the Paintball mode was to pre-order and buy this game at GameStop, so Giantbomb’s own Patrick Klepek contacted Activision today and was told that “If you don’t pre-order the game from GameStop you’ll still be able to play the Paintball mode, but you’ll need to unlock it by progressing through the game.” So don’t worry, you will be able to annoy your friends by painting the walls (and them) with bullets.
Now, to get through Bunker in 1:30 or less so I can run around with the double throwing-knife…
