Square Enix announced today a “Theater Rhythm Action” game in the Final Fantasy series. Its title? “Theatrhythm Final Fantasy.” That’s just a few notches more stupid than “Dissidia 012[duodecim] Final Fantasy” was. I am not making any of this up.

The Final Fantasy games are numerous, and some of them might be considered stranger than others. But none will be as strange as this little number!

According to Jump (via Adriansang), the game will feature a cutesy, chibi art style and a story centered around past Final Fantasy characters attempting to “return light to the crystal.” Good to know Square Enix isn’t afraid of flogging a dead horse while still trying new things.

All the in-game music is pulled from past Final Fantasy games, and everything is played like a rhythm game. Because One Winged Angel apparently needed rhythm gameplay.

Square Enix… What the hell are you doing? Sure, Patapon was fun, but do you really need to make that into a Final Fantasy spin-off? This fantasy is never going to be final, is it?

Rhythm action in all its glory

@Zachary Lyons, Actually, I think that pirate face is the one from the Shounen Jump logo.
