Namco Bandai files for new Katamari trademarks

Siliconera has today turned up listings for two new trademark applications by Namco Bandai, relating to the cult roll-em-up Katamari franchise.

Both the terms  ”Katamari Amore” and “Katamari Amore Rolling Whopper“was submitted to the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (the trademark registry for the EU), suggesting that a new Katamari game may be in the works.

Katamari Damacy creator Keita Takahashi departed Nacmo Bandai over six months ago to go build playgrounds, because he’s an awesome guy. Takahasi has had no direct involvement in the series since the second game though, which saw a slow decline in the sales – and some would argue quality – of the series in the proceeding years since.

As a long time fan of the original games, I would sadly have to agree. Here’s hoping the series may still see a return to form in the near future.

Not too sure about this. The first few Katamari games were great, but eventually they became way too samey.
