Minecraft creator Markus ”Notch” Persson announced today that the latest update for audience favourite Minecraft is in effect. Word of Notch says the new wolves will work as tameable mods, which will then be useable as pets.
Not only that, but sleeping in your bed now resets your spawn point; spiders won’t trample your crops; holding shifts lets you hold onto ladders; and also you can craft cookies. Mmmm. Cookies…. The framework for achievements and stats are also added, but the full feature won’t be seen in Minecraft until later updates.
For a video of the cute little wolves, check after the cut. Full list of updates can be found here.
“Jens spent most of the week working on a new mob; the wolf! You can tame it and order it to follow you around, and it’ll work as a pet. They’re fairly rare, but they won’t despawn once you’ve tamed them,” said Notch on his blog. And no, that Jens obviously isn’t me.

The fact that they won’t despawn after taming them is slightly worrying. Do they despawn after quitting the game? If not, and they truly never despawn, then I can imagine problems arising when you’ve got 50 wolves following you around and trampling all over your home.
@Joe Pomerening,
No they do not despawn when you quit the reason i know is because i have one wolf :3
Hey i want to download the update and tame the cute little wolves but i cant find the DL plz help
@SumGuy, I’m sorry, but we are not a tech support site.
Perhaps you can find help on the official Minecraft forums.

@SumGuy, If you’ve already purchased the game, just open the game launcher. It should auto-update. If not, check Kyle’s reply and try the Minecraft forums for help.
“And no, that Jens obviously isn’t me.”
That made me laugh.
wow
Were Can You Find These Wolfs? I know the update happend
@Tiger Jones, Wolves spawn in forest and Taiga biodomes
check the minepedia for more information
Are you able to untame a wolf? If not are you able to make a pen and leave them there until you need them?
@Finn, If you right click on your wolf with an empty hand, it will command it to sit. I personally just added a side room to my log cabin and when I don’t want him with me, I just right click him and stick him in there for the day.
@Luke Miner,
id like to know if u can actually untame it…want to sell wolves on a server, but i cant do if they are mine
What do they mean by reset?
I was wondering, once you’ve tamed the wolfs, can you tell them to like, stay, for instances? So they don’t follow you around all the time…?
@templecrafter, ^ See my reply to Finn.
