Joystiq has done some digging, and say they have confirmed the rumors of 343 Industries working on an HD remake of the Halo that started it all.

According to their sources, it will feature new art assets, more modern control options, and online co-op. It’s expected to release on November 15, 2011, on the ten year anniversary of the game (Yeah, think about that, it’s been 10 years since Halo came out).

This sounds like a sensible move for 343, albeit playing it safe. While popular, the first game came out on the original Xbox, a platform that didn’t have nearly the spread the 360 has, especially with the popularity of Halo 3 and Reach now.

I wonder if they would do anything with the multiplayer. On the one hand, it would make it more buyable for the average Halo fan, but on the other, it would split the MP community. Maybe they will try to funnel it into Reach, a lá ODST? I bet they would get a lot of buyers if they did updated versions Blood Gulch and other maps to be unlocked in Reach.

The sad part is, I really want to play this.

    It’ll be like

THIS IS EVERYTHING HALO WAS MEANT TO BECOME.

RRRRRGGGHHHH!!!!! WHY!? It’s a ten year old game! And it’s not like anything’s changed in the Halo series since the first game!

@Jens Erik Vaaler, THINK ABOUT ALL THE ALIENS YOU’RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO SHOOT

    AGAIN!

@Kyle Gaddo, BUT I DIDN’T EVEN CARE ABOUT THE ALIENS BACK THEN! NOR DID I CARE ABOUT THIS GAME.

Halo was overrated then, and it’s overrated now.

@Kyle Gaddo, And thank the non-existant god for that!

@Jens Erik Vaaler, Because they haven’t had time to make anything new, obviously.
