SEGA’s mascot Sonic the Hedgehog will be celebrating his 20th anniversary on June 23, 2011.
The blue blur was first introduced on the SEGA Mega Drive console in 1991 to give the teenagers a hipper, more “down with da kidz”-style mascot to counter Nintendo’s Mario.
This tactic proved to be quiet effective as Sonic’s super speed and cool attitude made him a very popular mascot. Sonic’s games have totaled over 70 million units sold worldwide. Too bad most of them suck.
SEGA Corp. will be celebrating Sonic’s birthday with events around the world, details of which will be released throughout 2011. So happy birthday, Sonic! Here’s hoping the next 20 years will turn out better for you!
However, for Sonic games that don’t suck, you can check out the reviews for both versions of Sonic Colors!
