Rumours have been circulating the web for about a week’s time now about an Uncharted 3 taking Nathan Drake from the jungles into the deserts. And as usual said rumour turned out to be ABSOLUTELY TRUE! What is it about keeping secrets in this industry that people absolutely fail at?

The third Uncharted game was officially announced today by magazine Entertainment Weekly, which certainly surprised me. Since when were they writing about video games? Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception will see everyone’s favourite Indiana Jones knock-off trek through the desert in search of a lost city that will lead him to the Rub’al Khali Desert. More information on the threequel, as well as concept art can be found after the cut.

The game’s title, Drake’s Deception, refers to the theme of deception playing out in multiple ways according to Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig. The story will focus on Drake’s relationship with mentor and father figure Victor Sullivan, Drake being deceived as well as some deception about Drake’s own identity.

Not only that, Uncharted 3 will also drew from the life of T.E. Lawrence, an archeologist you might know as “Lawrence of Arabia”. This comes out of a desire for Naughty Dog to push the boundaries of what you can credibly render with animation:

“When we first came up with the idea of sand, you see everyone’s eyes light up here and go, ‘Yeah, that’s going to be really hard — let’s do it!’” said Amy Hennig to EW.

“We’re a bunch of nerds. We just look for something that will be a technical, artistic challenge, and allowed us to push into an area of the world and history we’ve never tapped into before,” added Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells.

Uncharted 2′s multiplayer mode will be expanded upon with more details to come in the following months.

No release date has been confirmed as of yet, but most newa outlets are speculating in a 2011 release. Those who are still hungry for things Uncharted 3 can enjoy the quick teaser found on the Entertainment Weekly website. The first official game trailer can been seen on the Spike Video Game Awards on Saturday. Where else, right?

Sounds like Nolan North will be eating in 2011 as well.
