Are you really into the lore of the Halo universe? Then this news should get you pretty stoked. Greg Bear, the author who wrote the critically acclaimed novels Eon, Darwin’s Radio and The Forge of God will write the next literary installment of the first-person shooter franchise.

Bear’s trilogy will be the first ever piece of Halo media to actively cover the Forerunners’ story and their downfall. That’s right, those same dudes who created the Halos and the Flood will FINALLY have a story of their own besides vague references in video game dialogue. An unabridged audio book will also be released for those who cannot read printed words or for those that still like having a bedtime story read to them.

The first of Bear’s trilogy, titled Cryptum, will hit book stores everywhere in January 2011
