Sure, Fallout: New Vegas is still technically new, and that a lot of people probably haven’t even finished the main storyline. But that hasn’t stopped a sadistic few from going into the game’s ‘Hardcore’ mode and completing the game to find out what was promised at the beginning as a ‘Special Reward’.

To find out what the cake is, click below.

For those who never attempted, the ‘Hardcore’ mode is where you consistently have to keep hydrated, eating food, sleeping and you cannot fast travel if the distance will make you sick of dehydration. Your Stimpaks also do not heal instantly but overtime and your bullets can add weight to your inventory.

Sounds like a pain in the ass, right? Definitely worth the ‘Special Reward’ offered when you select the ‘Hardcore’ option in the character creation screen right?

To quote Howie Mandel, “WRONG!”

The reward is, and I wish I could make this up, a trophy/achievement signifying you completed the game on Hardcore mode.

I kid you not, all you get for that is a simple trophy that simply says “Good job”. Go back to easy mode, people. It’s apparently not worth it.

I like hardcore mode. Personally I think that it makes to have to think more strategically then just run, kill, stimpack, stimpack, stimpack. And to tell you the truth, I didn’t even notice the special reward part. I just saw it as a challenge and a different way of playing the game. So I think everyone should stop whining and play the game how they want to play it!

@Nick, yes! Hardcore mode is awesome! I have personally layed waste to entire camps on hardcore and it’s the ONLY way the game is really challenging after say…. level 25ish. A freekin trophy though??? damn… how about my very own G.E.C.K. Bethesda??????????? Oh, guess I gotta download it.

The writer’s obviously a softie when it comes to gaming. I play hardcore because it’s more fun because it’s more realistic. Not that anything in the game’s realistic, ala Fatman.

I also like being amoung the under 2% of people who’ve achieved Hardcore status.

I found hardcore fairly easy if you stick to the main story, the only thing that really sucks about it is you are constantly friggen thirsty but fun non the less….

That is a load of crap. you should get a dlc or rare weapon or something. anyway thanks for saving me from trying out hardcore mode xD

i was told there is a special gun that you get which is like the anti-material rifle but wen i did it………..nothing.why say theres a reward when there clearly aint..

I actually am about to fight the final battle on hardcore, just checked the interwebs to see what im getting as a ‘reward’. It is kind of a bummer that the reward i was promised was a cheev instead of something cool like Zero Encumberance, but im not at all disaappointed that i played through Hardcore mode. I enjoy a good challenge and when ammo weighs something you really have to plan your inventory instead of lugging around the 237 .50 MG rounds youve been saving for a rainy day. Those shits are a quarter of a pound, ever held one in the real world, they may not be a quarter of a pound but they sure as shit are heavy. Cheevs are for world of wowcraft players, but dont be discouraged from playing hardcore just because you dont get shit as a reward, its ballin and i wish skyrim implemented something like it. (arrows weiigh nothing in skyrim)

At the beginning of the game i saw this option i admit i got the game a while after it came out and i’ve had this save on my hard drive for a long while now thats been all hard core. But back on subject i started it over. The hardcore mode option came up in character creation and all i had to say was, “Challenge Accepted”

@ZekeTheJester (Gamertag XBOX Live), Obviously You Wouldnt Get Anything You Can Keep Because When The Game Is Over You Cant Continue And Must Load A Previous Save Which Is A Tremendous Let Down

i played on hardcore and hard. i loved the challenge. i like having to use strategy, subtlety, and ingenuity, instead of just mindlessly blasting my way through everything.
