According to Index Holdings’ website, Persona publisher Atlus has been dissolved as an individual entity.
This came about as a result of Index Holdings’ desire to streamline their business to focus on “profitable core areas.”
The site’s announcement says that the Atlus brand name will stay, but to what extent is unknown. However, it’s safe to say that the in-progress Atlus projects are not scrapped and will see release.
Katsura Hashino, director of PS3/360 horror game Catherine, mentioned the change on the Catherine blog saying that all the teams working on the game will be continuing their project.

This news makes me sad. I hope nothing happened to the Shin Megami Tensei franchise. =(
@Michael O’Connor, Yeah, kinda crappy, but the intellectual properties are unaffected, I’m sure.
I mean, Hashino said that Catherine is still go, so I can’t imagine that that means the end of the Persona/Shin Megami Tensei games.
