What is the first game studio you think of when you hear “new Jurassic Park game”? I bet it’s not Telltale Games, who are primarily known for their cartoony adventure games, such as the Sam & Max and Tales of Monkey Island series.

Even so, Game Informer tells us that TTG has a new deal with NBC Universal to make games based on their IP, the first being Jurassic Park, where they will publish one season of their familiar episodic format. The first one is expected to hit later this year.

This seems like an unusual, but potentially awesome combination. While Telltale is mostly known for the exaggerated, whimsy style of their adventure games, many don’t know they also did several of the CSI tie-in games. I wont speak to the quality of them, as I haven’t played any of them, but at least it tells us that Telltale have made games with “real” people before, rather than caricatures. I’m excited to see in what direction they take this project.

  1. A Jurassic Park adventure game? Not gonna work.

The slow paced nature goes completely against the intimidating, run-for-your-life nature of dinosaurs.

@Michael O’Connor, Who said anything about an adventure game? ;)

@Herman S. Lilleng, You mean other than the fact that it’s the whole company’s selling point?

Maybe they’re going to try to branch out. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Will you be able to play as Jeff Goldblum and silently stalk dinosaurs?

@Petter S. Nilsen, Only if you solve a complex series of completely unrelated item fetching puzzles first!

It certainly sounds interesting, though I’ll have to see it in action to really make up an opinion. It could probably work as a sneaking game, where you constantly have to avoid dinosaurs.
