Well, I have to say, I’m well behind on my Rock Band updates, but this is one I have to mention.

Legendary groove metal band Pantera are making their debut in the Rock Band series with their 1996 album The Great Southern Trendkill.

This album features a great number of Pantera’s most ferocious songs, with fast tempos and incredibly low tunings courtesy of Dimebag Darrell himself (Rest in peace, my man). In addition, the album also features lots of experimental pieces for Pantera, most significantly on songs like “Suicide Note, Pt. 1″ with the use of acoustic guitars and piano.

This album was also Pantera’s first to feature multi-tracked vocals with both Phil Anselmo providing lead vocals and Seth Putnam (of grindcore band Anal Cunt) with shrill screams in backing.

“Floods” is a standout track on the album, clocking in at just a hair under 7 minutes and featuring what many Pantera fans would call Dime’s greatest solo.

The tracklist for next week’s DLC is as follows:

1. The Great Southern Trendkill
2. War Nerve
3. Drag the Waters
4. 10′s
5. 13 Steps to Nowhere
6. Suicide Note, Pt. 1
7. Suicide Note, Pt. 2
8. Living Through Me (Hell’s Wrath)
9. Floods
10. The Underground in America
11. Sandblasted Skin (Reprise)

Normal pricing applies.  Individual tracks for 160 MSP/$1.99/200 WPS or the album for 1280 MSP/$15.99.  None of these songs are playable in LEGO Rock Band. :P  At least try to act surprised.

I, for one, am very excited about this release, but still remain hopeful for Cowboys From Hell as DLC in the future.

One Response so far.

Personally, I’m hoping that some DLC gets updated with multiple vocal tracks for Rock Band 3′s release. I figure all the Green Day stuff is, so some of the more awesome already-released DLC should get updates.

Just so certain songs on albums like this could get special treatment.
