Sony motion controller dubbed “PlayStation Move”

Posted by Kyle Gaddo - March 11, 2010 @ 00:03

There you have it, folks. At the Sony segment of the GDC, Sony has officially given “Arc” a name – The PlayStation Move.

Seems kind of like an obvious name for a motion controller, but I suppose it also succinctly explains its purpose.

The PlayStation Move will come bundled with a PlayStation Eye, a game and the controller itself for under $100.

In addition, PS3 games LittleBigPlanet and Resident Evil 5 have been confirmed to support Move functionality.  A new title, Sports Champion, will feature several sports-related mini-games for use with the PlayStation Move.

Very much looking forward to Microsoft’s motion controller, too!  Everyone stay tuned for Microsoft’s This Camera Tracks Your Movements!

    What’s with the Sailor Moon Wand thing?

    @Tony Bradford, *laughs*

    The light at the top is used to detect the angle and direction of the “wand”, or the Move as we probably have to call it now, in real time.

    @Michael O’Connor, Boy the Wii could do that without looking redic-…

    Wait, never mind.

    and I have to ask, what is it with companies putting ridiculous names for motion-controlled consoles?

    First it was Revolution for the Wii, which sounded cool, then bam, dick jokes. Now Sony is just stating what you do with their console.

    @Tony Bradford, “Move” isn’t as bad as it could have been. Besides, it’s not so much about the name anymore, but how you market it. “Xbox 360″ is a horrendous name, it tells you absolutely nothing about the product, yet Microsoft has managed to make us associate that name with gaming instantly. The same goes for the Wii, to a certain extent.

  4. Tony Bradford says:

    Well imo ’360′ is better than the ‘Microsoft You-fucking-play-games-on-it’.

    Though direct and right to the point.
